LISBON BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER W/ CHRIS HUCKSHOLD (EP 1)

Drive, determination, and battling adversity is where the 2019 Lisbon Blue Devils have come from this season.  Having to adjust on the fly has been a big part of building the path this season, and one that still has the makings for big things.

If you could see the effort that the Lisbon Coaching staff puts their players in to succeed, it’s astonishing.

Opponents film is broken down to its very foundation and drilled in practice.  Repetition of how plays work, and why they’ll be successful.  Having an entire team believe not just in the vision, but the purpose of each other.  All things that are preached and instilled by Lisbon Head Basketball Coach, Chris Huckshold.

We caught up with Lisbon’s leader prior to the District game against Sebring to see what has the world talking about the Blue Devils this season, as well as who is role model was on his way up the ladder.

All that and more on this week’s Lisbon Basketball Coach’s Corner with Chris Huckshold!

SWEENEY HITTING HIS STRIDE: JUSTIN TIME

Close your eyes for a moment.

It’s your senior year.  You’ve dreamt of this moment since you were a young Lisbon Blue Devil.  Since the time you first laced up your shoes and wore the “L” proudly in front of your community.

Now imagine all you’ve worked for being taken away from you with one misstep, one accident, one freak play.  The heartache, the frustration, the anger.  There’s no way you’ll be able to play, and if you somehow made it back later that year- you wouldn’t be the same.  It’s enough to make anybody throw in the towel and give up.

Anybody but Lisbon’s Justin Sweeney.

The Senior Blue Devil suffered what seemingly should have been a year ending injury.  However, just a few months after a devastating knee injury Sweeney lived up to his epic tweet on that tough night in Northeast Ohio.

Justin.  Sweeney.  Was.  Back.

Not only did he come back, but he became the scorer he was, and the one he was always meant to be.  Lisbon’s All-Time Scoring Leader!

Now with his team one way away from District play, Sweeney will take the floor on Friday against Sebring with momentum on his team’s side.  Lisbon looks to repay a debt that was served on the Devil’s home court two years ago when Sebring upset Lisbon to advance in the tournament.

We sat down with Justin for this week’s Lisbon Player Profile: SWEENEY HITS HIS STRIDE: JUSTIN TIME.

LISBON BLUE ANGELS

LISBON, OH- It gives me no greater pride and joy to return back to my alma mater the home of the blue and the white, Lisbon David Anderson High school. This is my final Christmas as a DAHS parents, we’ve been blessed with the legacy of students and student-athletes not because they have a ball in their hand or because the rushed or outscored their opponents but because they are kind, generous, and humble.

A week ago, Tuesday two senior students, Miranda Wood, and Hailey Toot, knew of a fellow senior student that wasn’t expecting much for Christmas. In a simple Social media post,” we need help” these two young ladies rallied an entire student body, Lisbon staff, and community to raise enough funds in just a few short hours to purchase the Christmas gift that he had longed and hoped for. The funds came in so quickly to not only buy the gift he so chooses, but they also raised enough money to purchase him other items that he needed for his home. Lisbon students and their community stuck beside one another and gave an amazing Christmas to one young man to make his Christmas outlook what is now,  “Merry and Bright”.

Haley Toot is a Varsity Cheerleader, the daughter of Dave and Heather Toot, Miranda Wood, faithful student supporter, is the daughter of Melinda Reynolds and Jason Wood.
Lisbon Student Council also rallied their troops and purchased gifts for 8 students in their prospective classes under their advisor Mrs. Carrie Smith. The Junior High Student Senate sponsored 4 of their fellow students.
