QUAKERS SHAKE EAST LIVERPOOL, STAY PERFECT

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The East Liverpool Potter football team dropped a hard fought 20-14 decision to their Columbiana County rival Salem Quackers.

Salem senior quarterback Niko Walter slashed the Potter defense for a combined 346 yards, as the Potter defense did not have an answer for Walter.  Senior wide receiver Jax Booth hauled in 5 receptions for 116 yards and 2 scores.
Potters senior Nick Woodyard led the Potter offensive attack with 10 receptions for 118 yards. Senior running back Derek Carter rushed 17 times for 60 yards and a touchdown.
After a sluggish first half offensively and training 8-0, the Potter offense came to life in the third quarter, scoring 14 points, with touchdowns from seniors Carter and Timmy. Neal.  However, that was not enough as Niko Walter answered  Neal’s touchdown with a dominant drive to take the lead once and for all.
The fourth quarter was scoreless, as Walter engineered a drive that ran nearly 9 minutes of 4th quarter clock.  The Potters finally stopped the Quakers at the Potter 2 yard line, but could not muster a final 2-minute drive. The Potters made a valiant effort and were able to move the ball to the Salem 41 yard line before Walter intercepted Potter quarterback Nate Davis to ice the game for the Quakers.

PROTECT THE HOME TURF, WELLSVILLE BOUNCES EDISON

WELLSVILLE, OH- In front of a packed house on “Black Out Night,” the Wellsville Tigers newly renovated stadium and turf field started off in style with a 41-7 win over the visiting Edison Wildcats. The Tigers got things started quickly on the first drive of the night with quarterback Troy Carter going in for a one-yard score just 2:43 into the first quarter. The score was set up by a 30-yard pass from Carter to senior wide receiver standout Darien Suggs. The duo would hook up for three first-half scores.

After taking a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, Edison responded with its own scoring drive – senior signal-caller Noah Woods capped off the drive with a run from inside the one-yard line. Woods suffered an injury in the second quarter and did not return. That one-yard score would be the only time Edison would find the end zone on the night.

Carter finished the night with 173 yards and 3 passing touchdowns to go along with his one-yard touchdown run. The Jr. signal-caller also had an interception on defense. Suggs led all receivers with 5 catches for 135 yards and three touchdowns to go with two interceptions on defense. Freshman Isaiah Greathouse led the Tigers on the ground with six rushes for 48 yards. Jason Tice and Justin Wright also came up with interceptions on the night for the Tigers – Tice’s went 65 yards for the score. Tyler Griffith led the Wildcats in rushing with 19 carries for a hard-earned 103 yards. Vinnie Marcino chipped in seven runs for 24 yards.

Wellsville had six takeaways and no turnovers on the night, and now have 10 forced turnovers on the year. With the win, Wellsville starts 2-0 for the first time since 2014. Edison falls to 0-2 and will host Toronto next Friday. Wellsville will host Malvern in a rematch of a game that came down to the wire in 2018.

CREEK GROUND ATTACK TAKES DOWN POTTERS

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- There was a playoff atmosphere in the air at Patterson field as two Buckeye 8 rivals went to war Friday night. Indian Creek played ground and pound football to take the victory 27-13 as they racked up 292 yards rushing and 4TD on 46 carries. (6.3 YPC)
Time of possession played a huge factor as Senior tailback Trevor Fante led Indian Creek with 162 yards and two scores on the ground. This made it possible for Indian Creek to sustain long drives and wear down the Potter defense. A fresh Indian Creek defense was able to keep the Potter offense at bay after an early 84 yd screen pass from Junior Nate Davis was taken to the house by Nick Woodyard to give the Potters a 7-0 lead. Tied at 7-7 at the half the Potters came out looking fresh in the 3rd quarter and were able to finally break loose tailback Derek Carter on their first possession of the second half that was capped off with a 24 yard TD run by Carter to put the Potters up 13-7. After that score, Indian Creek tightened it up on Defense and stuck to the ground and pound offensive game plan that led to three unanswered TD’s by Indian Creek to give the Redskins a 27-13 victory.
The Potters will look to bounce back next week in what is one of the oldest Rivalries in all of high school football as the Salem Quakers will travel to Patterson Field.

BEAVER LOCAL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST GARFIELD

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beaver Local football team committed 6 turnovers Friday Night. Usually, when a football team turns the ball over that many times in a game it’s impossible to win & that was the case as the Beavers fell to Akron Kenmore Garfield 19-8 on Friday Night.

The Golden Rams scored on their first possession of the game. Kenmore Garfield running back Lamont Evans ripped off a 66-yard run to the Beaver 8, then 3 plays later on 3rd & goal on the 7 Evans would score a touchdown. The 2 point conversion attempt was no good, making the score 6-0. This was the only score of the 1st half by either team. The Beavers would enter Golden Rams territory 3 times in the first half but each drive ended on an interception; one by Tanner Johnston & the other two by Ethan Lewis, keeping the score 6-0 at halftime.

At the beginning of the second half, the Golden Rams recovered on the onside kick at the Beavers 48, but the drive stalled as Daniel Wirth recovered a fumble on the Kenmore Garfield 30. But on the Beavers next drive Ethan Lewis threw his 3rd interception of the game. The Golden Rams would score as Lamont Evans scored on a 6 yard run with 3:53 left on the 3rd quarter, making the score 12-0 after another failed 2 point attempt. The Golden Rams were set up for another score late in the 3rd quarter as Lewis fumbled while trying to avoid a sack. Jayvon Fisher scored a 2 yard run in the last minute of the 3rd & a successful extra point made the score 19-0 Golden Rams after 3 quarters.

The Beavers would score their only touchdown of the game on the first minute of the 4th quarter. Offensive lineman Payne Allen recovered a Jacob Kane fumble in the end zone. A failed 2 point attempt made the score 19-6. The Beavers would score 2 more points on safety as an errant snap on a punt attempt sailed out of the end zone. Lewis would throw his fourth interception of the game on the next drive before the Golden Rams ran out the clock.

The Kenmore Garfield improve to 1-1 & were led by Lamont Evans, who had 107 yards on 12 carries with 2 touchdowns & had an interception on defense. Deror Wilson had 52 yards on 19 carries & also had an interception. Jayvon Fisher added 28 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown & an interception. DaMonte Terry had 2 interceptions while Marshall Thomas recovered a fumble.

The Beavers fall to 1-1 with the loss. Ethan Lewis was 6-18 for 103 yards with 4 interceptions. Jacob Kane led the Beavers in rushing with 31 yards on 7 carries. Beaver Local will travel to Minerva next Friday Night before return home to take the rival East Liverpool Potters on September 20.
