WARRIORS SHOW OFF THEIR STRENGTH

MINERVA, OHIO- West Branch had everything go in their favor on Tuesday as they cruised to a 7-0 shutout win against Minerva.

West Branch was strong on the offensive side as they racked up twelve hits on the day. The Warriors were led by Addi Craven, who showed off her talent and went 2 for 3 at the plate.  She brought home 3 runs for the Warriors. Mati Hawk made her presence known as she went 3 for 4 on the day with 2 RBI.

Klary Mckay had an amazing performance in the circle as she allowed only 1 hit, and had 6 strikeouts through seven innings pitched.

West Branch will look to mirror this performance when they play Girard at home on Thursday. 

HUBBARD FIGHTS BACK TO CLAIM FIRST NE8 WIN

HUBBARD, OHIO – The offense took control early on as they scored three in the bottom of the first. Lauren Komorek had a big inning with an RBI tripled combined with a Jefferson error to add to the scoring. Hubbard scored three runs again in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a Jocelyn Doughton single and another Jefferson defensive miscue.

Phoebe Rusnak led Hubbard with two hits in her four plate appearances. Kaylee Schultz stepped to the pitcher’s circle for Hubbard where she pitched the distance allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out six batters through seven innings of work.

Hubbard will play non-conference opponent Frankfort Adena next on Friday with first pitch coming at 5:15 p.m.

RAMS MAKE THINGS EVEN WITH WATERLOO

MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO- Mineral Ridge got their first win of the season as they defeated Waterloo 9-4 to split the MVAC series with the Vikings.

Lilly Merolillo, Kelcee Dye, and Aaliyah Wall all went 3 for 4 at the plate while Maddy Ylonen went 2 for 4. The big inning for the Rams was in the bottom of the third inning, where the scored 4 runs that was helped by a two run home run by Wall. Waterloo’s offensive side racked up seven hits and four runs on the day, but to no avail. The winning pitcher was Maddy Ylonen, who pitched seven innings and allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, and had 10 strikeouts.

Mineral Ridge will be back in action on Wednesday when they take  on the visiting Western Reserve Blue Devils. Waterloo will be back at home taking on Sebring on Wednesday. 

FITCH FEELS FINE ON THE ROAD

BOARDMAN OH- After their first 5 games of the season being played in the friendly confines of their home field, Fitch finally got to test their merit on the road in Boardman.  The hostile environment didn’t phase the Falcons as they once again shut out an AAC opponent in a 6-0 win over the Spartans.

The Falcons scored a run in all but two of the innings they came to the plate.  They got things started in the first when Ayla Ray opened the game with a triple.  She would then score on a Caitlin Mitchell ground out.  In the second inning Abby Toth hit a RBI double to score Sam Severn.  and Sydnie Watts homered in the third. The Falcons would also score in the fifth and the sixth innings.

Ray had the most productive day in the lineup knocking in 2 RBI on a 2-3 effort.  Watts gathered multiple hits going 2-3 with a walk, a RBI, and a run scored.  Severn also had multiple hits going 2-4 with 2 runs scored.  Ashlee McLean pulled up the bottom of the order going 2-3 with a RBI.

Watts threw another solid game in the circle for Fitch. Although Boardman made her work hard, she gave up no runs in the complete game effort. She struck out 11, walked one, and gave up 6 hits.

Boardman definitely got themselves in position to score. They had back to back innings in the second and third with two runners on with two outs. The timely hit eluded them however.  Gabi Sferra was the only Spartan with multiple hits going 2-3.  Natalie Davis had the Spartans first hit of the day, and got called out trying to stretch it to a double.  Tori Strines, Ava Freeborough, and Olivia LaCivita each got hits as well.

Fitch will return home on Wednesday as they host Massillon Perry.  The first pitch for that game is 5:00. Boardman will have some time off before they return to the field on Saturday for two games at Poland against the Bulldogs, and Brookfield.  They’ll play Poland at 11:00 and Brookfield at 1:00.

GRADISHAR TOSSES SECOND NO HITTER OF THE YEAR

WARREN, OHIO – Gabby Gradishar of Champion was absolutely dazzling on the rubber Monday as she no-hit LaBrae en route to the Flashes 12-0 win. Gradishar struck out 12 LabRae batters and did not allow any walks. This no-hitter marks the second one thrown by Gradishar on this young season, an impressive accomplishment.

On the offensive side for Champion, they totaled 13 hits as a team where the big seven-run inning allowed for this game to be ended early. Addi Warzala, Olivia Gray, Abigail Meadors, Morgan Davis, and Hailey Householder all drove in runs in the big bottom of the fourth outburst. Davis and Bella Meyer each had three hits to lead Champion in that category.

The two teams will battle again Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. with LaBrae playing host.

FLASHES POUNCE ON LABRAE IN GAME 1 OF THE SERIES

WARREN OH- Champion stole the lead late in the game in a 7-1 victory over LaBrae on Monday. The game was tied at one with Champion batting in the bottom of the fifth when Carson Fife doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Champion secured the victory thanks to four runs in the fifth inning. Fife and Brett Channell each had RBIs in the frame.

Hunter Haines was credited with the victory for the Flashes. Haines went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out nine. Dylan Howell threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Landon Brunstetter took the loss for the Vikings. The bulldog surrendered four runs on four hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven.

Champion tallied nine hits. Haines and Micah Nolan all collected multiple hits for the offense. Nolan and Haines each collected two hits to lead the way.

Brunstetter led LaBrae’s lineup with two hits in four at bats.

Chamlion and LaBrae will finish their MVAC series on Tuesday at LaBrae. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.

WILDCATS ARE FLEXING THEIR MUSCLES

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- Edison is turning a lot of heads early in the season as their combination of potent offense and stellar pitching has dominated their way to wins.  On Monday it was no different as they out hit Beaver Local 16-1 and beat the Beavers 17-0.

Leading the Wildcats on offense were Anna Wadas with a home run and a double, Hannah Russell with a double and two singles, Audrey Scott a double and a single, Morgan Martin two singles, Ali Shrieve two singles, Pressly Meadows a double. Also singles from Olivia Fankhauser, Pam Johnson, Becka Evans,   Emma LoPrete.

Katie Fluharty dazzled in the circle only giving up one hit on the night and striking out 7 hitters.

Edison will be back in action on Wednesday as they go to Indian Creek.  First pitch is slated for 3:00.

LIBERTY IS NO MATCH FOR THE MIGHTY REBELLION

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – It was an offensive explosion for Crestview softball Monday night as they took care of Liberty handedly 16-4.

Four hits from Breanna Figley led the offensive charge for Crestview. Figley doubled in the second inning, again in the fourth, tripled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh. After allowing three runs to Liberty in the first, Chloe Stoops settled in and finished with a line of four runs allowed, five hits, and two strikeouts through four innings of work. Brooke Brubaker finished things off in three innings of relief not giving up any hits or runs, striking out eight batters. Figley, Brubaker, Stoops, Ellie Rickets, and Katie Lissi all had multi-hit games for Crestview.

The two teams will face off again Tuesday night with Liberty being the home team. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m.

 

RAIDERS BREAK DOWN THE FLOOD GATES

NILES OH- South Range’s two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as they defeated Niles 20-0 on Monday. Jayli Wilt earned the strike out to get the last out of the game.

The Raiders secured the victory thanks to 13 runs in the second inning. Keira Brogan, Kelly Szolek, Juli Stachowicz, Madison Dado, and Solena DeJesus all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

South Range got things started in the first inning when an error scored two runs for the Raiders.

Stachowicz was the winning pitcher for South Range. Stachowicz allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Wilt threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Raiders launched one home run on the day. Stachowicz went deep in the second inning.

South Range had 20 hits in the game. Brogan, Szolek, Riley DeCiancio, Ashley Rupert, Stachowicz, DeJesus, and Gretchen Bartels all had multiple hits. Brogan went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits.

The two teams will complete their NE8 series on Tuesday as they play again at South Range. First pitch is set for 5:00.

BULLDOGS BATS DO THE JOB

CORTLAND OH-Gianna Caruso had a busy day at the plate on Monday, smacking four hits in Lakeview’s 11-4 victory over Girard. Caruso singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and singled in the fifth.

Girard scored three runs in the third inning, but Lakeview still managed to pull out the victory. Girard offense in the inning was led by Sidnee Rice and Ali Durkin, both driving in runs.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the first inning when Mack Stowe homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

Emily Rosace toed the rubber for Girard. The hurler allowed 13 hits and 12 runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Lakeview tallied two home runs on the day. Kennedy Bartlett went for the long ball in the third inning. Stowe had a long ball in the first inning.

The Bulldogs collected 13 hits on the day. Caruso, Izzy Haines, and Bartlett all collected multiple hits. Caruso went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.

Girard racked up 11 hits. Abbie Rafferty, Kylie Carpenter, Aly Wakefield, and Malina Serrano each managed multiple hits on the day.
