DEVILS RALLY TO SPIKE BROOKFIELD

CAMPBELL, OH- The Memorial Varsity Red Devils pulled off a lively 9-4 win against Brookfield on Tuesday, showing some real grit and a knack for capitalizing on their opportunities.

The game kicked off with the Red Devils getting an early jump on the scoreboard in the first inning, thanks to a crucial error by Brookfield and a timely single from Pano Kolidakis, each bringing a runner home. But Brookfield wasn’t about to roll over. They snagged the lead in the top of the second, leveraging a couple of defensive mishaps by Memorial to go up 3-2.

However, the Red Devils weren’t down for long. They stormed back in the bottom half of the same inning, putting up a five-spot highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Kosta Patris that shifted the momentum firmly back in their favor. This big hit was part of a rally that saw Memorial jump ahead to a 7-3 lead.

On the mound, Sway Rodriguez was a steadying presence for the Red Devils, handling the Brookfield lineup with ease. Despite the team’s early defensive errors, Rodriguez kept his composure, surrendering just two hits and striking out six over a full seven innings of work. His performance earned him a well-deserved win, while Brookfield’s Coleman, who struggled with control and allowed seven runs over two innings, took the loss.

Kolidakis and Patris were key contributors with the bat, driving in two runs each. Patris also shined with a pair of hits, proving to be a real thorn in Brookfield’s side.

The Red Devils showed tremendous discipline at the plate, working their way to an impressive 10 walks. Duan Reynolds, Malik Young, and Avey Vazquez were particularly patient, drawing two walks each. This patience translated into aggression on the base paths, where the team racked up an astonishing 13 stolen bases. Reynolds, Bobby Ramirez, and Vazquez each snagged multiple bases, keeping the Brookfield defense on its toes throughout the game.

For Brookfield, Hardman managed to bat in a run, while Kikel and Rankin each put up a hit, but it just wasn’t enough to keep pace with Memorial’s relentless attack.

Next up, the Red Devils are set to host Champion at Bob Cene Park on Wednesday, looking to keep their momentum rolling. If they can maintain the same level of aggressive baserunning and sharp pitching, they’ll be tough to beat.

On the Carrollton side, Isiah McConnell put in a solid shift despite taking the loss. He worked all seven innings, yielding four runs (only one earned) on eight hits and struck out six. It was a tough day for McConnell, who only walked one but didn’t get the defensive support he needed at crucial moments.

Gibson was a key offensive piece for Salem, driving in two of their four runs. Both Riesen and Rhodes had their bats going too, each picking up a pair of hits to help build the inning that would decide the game.

For Carrollton, Jenkins led the batting efforts, but it was their ability to draw walks that kept them in the game, showcasing their patience at the plate. Landon James, Aiden McCort, and McConnell each took two walks, keeping the bases busy and the pressure on.

As the dust settles on this intense game, both teams are gearing up for a quick rematch, with Carrollton traveling to Salem this Wednesday.

ELLWOOD CITY, PA- In a game that unfolded under a clear blue sky, the Mohawk Warriors claimed a solid victory over Ellwood City with a 6-1 scoreline on Monday. The game saw a display of strategic play and strong pitching from the Warriors that ultimately left the home team struggling to find their rhythm.

The game began quietly with both teams held scoreless in the first inning. Ellwood City briefly took the lead in the second inning thanks to a double by Roth, who later scored, but that would be the only time they’d see home plate. The Warriors, unshaken by their slow start, found their stride in the fourth inning, unleashing a burst of energy that would see them take control of the game.

Vince Pezzuolo, starting pitcher for the Warriors, threw a solid five innings, allowing only one run and striking two out, showcasing both control and stamina. His performance on the mound was backed by a cohesive defensive display, keeping the Ellwood errors to a minimum.

Keigan Hopper’s double was a highlight, driving in two crucial runs and demonstrating the depth of the Warriors’ batting lineup.

Mohawk Area continued to build on their lead with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, courtesy of smart base running and solid hits by the A&J Connection: JJ Nail and AJ Verdi, who together knocked in three of the six runs. Despite Ellwood City’s best efforts to rally, the Warriors’ pitching held strong, with Chapman and Bobby Fadden closing out the game without giving up any further runs.

Ellwood City’s pitchers, led by Nardone, found themselves under constant pressure, struggling with control and ultimately yielding six runs from eight hits. Their day was characterized by a battle against both the Warriors’ bats and their own command on the mound.

As the game concluded, Mohawk celebrated a well-earned victory, demonstrating not just their skill but their ability to capitalize on crucial moments.
