GARRETTSVILLE OH- From the outside this season looked like a rebuild in Garfield. Little did people know what head coach Aaron Gilbert had in mind. Senior Laura McCoy joins a cast of players that has made the Lady G-Men a major force to be reckoned with. They stormed through the first half of the season going 11-0 before their first loss of the season. They have a hold of the top spot in the MVAC. Things are looking bright for Garfield as we speed towards the tournament.
McCoy has been a staple for the G-Men offense. She averages over 16 points per game on the season. She’s also been known to go off for huge nights. She has a season high of 32 in a game. McCoy also reached a career milestone this year hitting that 1000 point mark that every player dreams of. However, McCoy is more than just a scorer. She distributes the ball very well, which helps keep Garfield’s offense so balanced. McCoy averages over 3 assists per game. She also isn’t afraid to get in the paint and rebound. Laura averages over 5 boards per contest. All the numbers are just tangible proof of what an impact she has made on the team. There are plenty of intangibles that shine through as well. You could call her coach Gilbert’s ace in the hole.
Laura took the time to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about her career. She talks about how welcomed she’s been at Garfield, what makes it such a special place, and so much more. Check out the latest Garfield Girls Basketball Player Profile only on YSN.
