TIGERS WELCOME IN A WIN

WARREN,OHIO- Champion fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 5-2 loss to Howland on Thursday.

The Tigers scored on a double by Robert Gumino in the first inning and a error in the second inning. Howland knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning.  Gumino doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. After Champion scored one run in the top of the fifth, Howland answered with one of their own when Bode Biggin singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.  Howland pulled away for good with one run in the second inning when an error scored one run.

Anthony Marimpietri got the win on the mound as the righthander surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one before Dominic Santee relieved him and threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Carson Fife went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Champion in hits as Brett Channell toed the rubber for Champion. The hurler allowed seven hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out two. Dylan Howell threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Champion will travel to Lakeview on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs at 11:00am. Howland will go up against Columbiana on Friday at 5:30pm.
