AUSTINTOWN FITCH SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH STEVE WARD

AUSTINTOWN OH- The weather is starting to warm up as the calendar begins to turn from winter to spring. With the spring season comes trips to the softball fields for a lot of high school players. For Fitch, they are coming off an amazing season is 2021. Did they lose some important seniors? Yes. Are they bringing back a bunch of talent as well? Also yes. Headlining their senior class is Seton Hill commit Maddy Taylor who brings a bunch of pop to her bat. Also coming in to her senior season Kayla Schubert who did a lot for the team in last year’s run. Those bring three other seniors with them to lead this squad.

LOUISVILLE BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH TOM SIEGFRIED

LOUISVILLE OH- The Leopards roar as district champs! Louisville has made it through the division 2 Ashtabula district to earn the right to cut down nets. It wasn’t an easy journey. They had another hungry big cat across from them searching for their first district championship. Everyone knew Louisville vs Howland was going to be good, when they met in the regular season it was Howland with a six point win. The Leopards flipped the script this time around and won the district championship 63-56. Now the Leopards turn their focus to Cleveland Glenville in the regional semifinals.

Tom Siegfried took the time to come back on YSN’s Running Point this week to help preview the regional semifinals. CARDINAL MOONEY BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 4) WITH CAREY PALERMO

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney has made it back to back! After coming off a district championship last year, they have fought through a brutal schedule, and a tough District Bracket to win their second consecutive district championship. They were able to tackle the Springfield Tigers 38-31. The Cardinals grinder the Tigers offense to a screeching halt. Thats what they’ll have to try to do in the regional semifinals. They have another high flying offense sitting on the side of the bench to them. The Campbell Red Devils blasted to a 74 point output in the district championship.

CAMPBELL BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 5) WITH NICK CANTERINO

CAMPBELL OH- For the first time since 2009 Campbell has won a district championship in boys basketball. They did it in emphatic fashion too. After a competitive first half with Jefferson, the Red Devils exploded to a 20 point 74-54 victory. That’s one goal down, and a couple more to go. Standing in the Red Devils way is Cardinal Mooney. The Cardinals defense is no joke. They held Springfield to 31 points in their district final. The Devils offense will be put to the test on Wednesday at 6:00 at the Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.

POLAND BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH ERIC FENDER

POLAND OH- It took two overtime wins, but the Poland Bulldogs have clawed their way to a district championship game. Their latest thriller came in the semifinals against Chardon. The Bulldogs took a overtime win over the Hilltoppers thanks to a 37 point performance from Ross Dedo. Now, a big challenge looms for Poland. An all too familiar foe in Chaney stands against them with a title on the line. Three of the last four district championships have been decided between Chaney and Poland, and it’s all been going the way of Chaney. Poland can fix all of that Saturday in Boardman at 4:00.

Eric Fender took the time to join YSN’s Running Point this week to give us a preview of the district championship game. SPRINGFIELD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH JEFF BRINK

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield has punched their ticket to the Salem district championship. A place this team is all too familiar with. Jeff Brink’s first year back to the program has been a fruitful one for sure. The Tigers dominated Garfield to get to this point. The defense was what shined the brightest. The Tigers held the G-Men to under 30 points. Next up for the Tigers is a Mooney team that is coming off one of their best shooting nights of the season. Springfield’s defense will need to be up to the task.

Not only did their defense cause all kinds of chaos, but their offense shot the lights out on the Leopards. It culminated in a momentum swinging dominating victory. Now their sights get turned to Springfield with a district championship on the line. It all comes down to this.

WARREN JFK BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH MARK KOMLANC

WARREN OH-  Warren JFK has made into the district championship again. The Eagles are vying for their second straight district title. They got a big win in the semifinals over Wellsville. Nothing was stopping the Eagles as they dominated their way to the win. Now they must deal with the Mustangs from Mathews. Their opponent is 24-1 and the Eagles are embracing their role of underdogs. Not too many people outside the program believed the team would be in this spot after the start they had, so the Eagles have had the chip on their shoulder all year.

CAMPBELL OH- The Rocking Red Devils are poised to play for a district championship! Campbell fought their way past a Cardinal team that brought a good defensive game plan to the table. While Kevin Moore was slowed down for a half, other players like Xavion Leonard stepped up for the Red Devils. The next challenge ahead of them is the Falcons from Jefferson. This should be an offensive gun show as both teams have put up 70 plus multiple times this season.

SPRINGFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JOHN MATISI

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield has punched their ticket to regionals. In his first year as head coach, John Matisi has led the team to the mountain top. Springfield is in this spot for the first time in a long time. The Tigers got here with a 36-31 win over Maplewood. The Tigers defense stepped up big and held down a strong Rocket offense. They’ll need that defense again to try and slow down a Buckeye Central team that has a high flying offense as well.

John Matisi joined YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about this season.
