EAGLES EYE SEASON SPLIT WITH RANGE

HUBBARD, Ohio

It took 3 innings for the Hubbard Eagle bats to get fired up but once they started, they couldn’t be stopped.

Carrying a no-hitter into the bottom of the 4thinning, South Range’s Billy Skripac had notched 7 strikeouts while only giving up 1 walk through his first 3 innings of work.

A walk, an error, and a hit by pitch would load the bases for the Hubbard Eagles before backtoback singles plated all three of the Dirty Bird baserunners. Holding the Raiders to no runs in the top half of the 5th, the Dirty Birds moved in to the next half inning with momentum firmly in their hands.

After Evan Jarvis would single and eventually reach third thanks to a throwing error and a pass ball, sophomore Jake Hettrick would plate Jarvis with a sacrifice fly to right field.

With the bases cleared and one away the Raiders helped prolong the Eagles’ inning by making an error and then walking another man on. Already with a good day at the plate, Albert Gerlick showed up big once again with an RBI infield single for the Eagles. A sacrifice fly from Ian Wukelich for his 3rd RBI of the game would tie the game up at 6, then Gerlick would eventually score thanks to a wild pitch and give Hubbard their first lead of the game.

Looking to close out a big conference win the Eagles brought in Mikey Zapka. Zapka, 3-0 on the season, would close things out for the Dirty Birds to get a 7-6 win, allowing only 1 hit through his 2 innings of work.
