MOONEY WINS PITCHERS DUEL OVER CLIPS

STRUTHERS, OH- Tuesday’s showdown was a classic pitcher’s duel, with Jonathan Brenner leading the Cardinal Mooney Varsity Cardinals to a crisp 2-0 victory over Columbiana. Brenner was virtually untouchable, racking up 12 strikeouts and surrendering just one hit across seven shutout innings, without issuing a single walk.

Pitching was the name of the game for both teams. While Brenner and the Cardinals’ bullpen combined for a total of 12 strikeouts, Columbiana’s pitchers also put up a solid effort, striking out eight Cardinal hitters.

The Cardinals edged ahead in the second inning, thanks to Kaden Reese’s groundout that brought in the first run of the game. It was a tightly contested affair, with every run feeling like it could be the difference-maker.

On the mound for Columbiana, Devin Daugherty delivered a commendable performance, allowing just four hits and two runs—one of which was earned—over six innings while striking out eight and walking two.

Taco Verroco drove in the other crucial run for Cardinal Mooney, contributing significantly to their slender lead. Meanwhile, Trent Litman was a force at the plate, going three for three and shining in the field with 12 chances, leading his team in defensive efforts.

Max Conway was the standout for Columbiana, managing one of their three hits in his three at-bats.

Looking ahead, the Cardinal Mooney are set to face off against South Range on Wednesday at 7pm at Bob Cene Park.
