CANFIELD MAKES IT TEN IN A ROW IN THE AAC

CANFIELD OH- The Cardinals girls soccer team has been the definition of dominate inside the AAC over the last decade. This season, although it took a battle down to the last conference game, the Cardinals won their tenth straight AAC title with a 1-0 win over Fitch.

Sabrina Goodrich found Hanna Wahib to score the lone goal of the game for Canfield. The Cardinals made life easy on their goalkeeper. Bayann Jadallah only needed one save to pitch a shutout.

The Cardinals are 13-1-1 and 7-0-1 in the AAC.

FITCH CLUTCHES SOLE POSSESSION OF AAC CROWN

CANFIELD OH- There we’re so many story lines to keep track of Tuesday night as Fitch, and Canfield squared off for the second time of the season. The most important thing on the line however, was the AAC championship. The Falcons needed a win to claim the outright title, Canfield still had a chance to force a share. It ended up being Fitch’s day in a thriller fit for a title match. The Falcons won in five sets. (17-25 25-16 23-25 25-17 15-10)

Jocelyn Jourdan was putting on a display of power. After being held to just 2 kills in the first set, Jourdan finished with 26 on the night. She also had 26 digs to earn a massive double double. Alyssa Leskovac showed up big as well earning a double double with 15 kills, and 21 digs. Ella Sahli played great defense as well finishing with 24 digs. Erin Burke set up 25 assists, while Sammi Misik had 20.

Abbie Householder had a memorable senior night for the Cardinals. She eclipsed 1,000 career kills on her 5th of the night. She would finish with a match high 29. Abby Muckleroy finished the night with 6 kills. Parker Wilkins was also electric in the back row on defense for Canfield.

Fitch will continue the season Thursday at Sharpsville. Canfield wil ll travel to Girard on Thursday.

LESKOVAC BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD AS FITCH SWEEPS BULLDOGS

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Austintown Lady Falcons picked up their 17th win of the season. With a straight-set victory over The Lady Bulldogs of Poland.
The first two sets were competitive, as Poland showed a lot of growth and focus, as they continued to prepare for the tournament.

With extensively long volleys back and forth between the two teams. The Lady Bulldogs brought the fight against Fitch on Monday night.
The Lady Falcons, however, were able to win the first 2 sets of the match.

Set 3 belonged to Fitch and Alyssa Leskovac. Who broke the school record for the most serving aces in a single season with 64 total!

FITCH SNAGS VICTORY IN DRAMATIC COMEBACK

In what was certainly a memorable senior night as Fitch battled The Wadsworth Grizzlies in a division 2 matchup! The Falcons snuck one away for the38-28 win.

Fitch got the ball to start, and took it right down the field. However, The Grizzlies were able to hold The Falcons to a field goal.
As both teams had a strong defensive showing in the first quarter. At the end of the 1st, the score was just 3-0 in favor of Fitch.
Wadsworth made some big adjustments going into the 2nd. As both teams exchanged multiple touchdowns before half. As the score at halftime favored Wadsworth 21-17.

Luke Fischer did a great job of applying the pressure to Fitch in the 3rd. Passing all over The Falcons secondary, and taking a 28-17 lead.
But those resilient Falcons stayed strong through the adversity. As Fitch was able to tighten the score, trailing by just five points 28-23 in the 4th.

The magic returned to Greenwood Chevrolet Stadium, as Devin Sherwood was able to stay strong in the pocket, along with an incredible catch by Cam Smith, allowing Fitch to take a 31-28 lead!

Then, the defense that seemed to be missing for The Falcons the past couple of weeks, showed up bigger than ever before. Grabbing a total of 3 interceptions in the 4th quarter!

The Falcons defense held strong, and finished The Grizzlies off by a final score of 38-28.
As Fitch looks to a big week 9 matchup with rival Boardman in enemy territory. A matchup that could have big implications on Division 2.

FITCH FIGHTS TO EARN SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY

AUSTINTOWN OH- Falcons Beat Boardman on Senior Night
The Falcons and their seniors took to the court of Austintown Fitch High School for the last time this season.
As The Falcons faced, crosstown rival, and upcoming Boardman Spartans. Both teams brought the energy, as hundreds of fans lined the bleachers in celebration of a season that was.
Fitch jumped ahead 1 set to 0 after winning the first set by 10. After the excitement of senior night settled down, Boardman was able to cut the deficit in half, falling to The Falcons by just 5 in set 2.
By set 3, with their backs against the wall, The Spartans battled Fitch in a close one. However, The Lady Spartans remained resilient, downing the Falcons in set 3 by a score of 25-23. Thanks in part to the fantastic play of Jenna Olexa and Gia Triveri, each with 8 kills and a combined 28 digs between the two.
Set 4 was winding down to be a close one. With both teams exchanging scores until the late stages of the set.
Austintown had some key contributions by younger players, such as sophomore Afton Roby who had 3 blocks on the night. As well as junior Avery Rosko who stepped up as the libero for Fitch.
However, it was the captains for Austintown that came up big down the stretch. Jocelyn Jourdan, with her game leading 24 kills, helped fuel The Falcons to take a lead late in set 4. But it was senior Alyssa Leskovac that finished it off. After a long volley back and forth, a free ball sent over to Fitch, they got it to Leskovac. Ballgame.

FITCH CELEBRATES SENIORS WITH A WIN

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Fitch Falcons brought home a win on their senior night against Harding on Monday night 6-0

Senior Candace Krpicak led the Falcons with a hat trick scoring 3 goals. Madi Bucko chipped in with a pair of goals. Senior Mackenzie Hartman also found the back of the net. The other seniors recognized on the night were Miranda Ashley,Moira George, and Kristen Klaus.

Fitch’s next game is at home on Saturday hosting Badger.

CARDINALS DOMINATE BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

CANFIELD OH- The Canfield Cardinals and the Austintown Fitch Falcons met for the first time on the gridiron since 2003, the Cardinals got off to a hot start and never looked back.

Austintown got the football to start the ballgame, but quickly turned it over with a fumble at their own 20 yard line. Canfield’s quarterback Broc Lowry ran in a touchdown from 5 yards out to get on the board first. The Falcons would respond with a 28 yard field goal, but the Cardinals took their next drive down the field in a hurry and was capped off by a Mike Crawford TD run to make it 14-3. Austintown quarterback Devin Sherwood had an explosive 54 yard touchdown run late in the first quarter to put the Falcons within 4.
The Cardinals special team came up big in the second quarter, as the Cardinals blocked a Falcons punt, and took over at the Fitch 30 yard line. Head coach Mike Pavlansky pulled the rabbit out of the bag in the playbook, with a double reverse flea flicker touchdown pass to Oliver Kovass to make it 21-10.

Canfield came out in the second half and scored on three consecutive drives to put the ballgame away. Canfield would win the matchup by a final score of 41-10. The Cardinals improve to 6-1, and will host East next Friday. Fitch is now 3-3, and will play Wadsworth at home on Friday. Catch both games live on YSN.

FITCH LOSES LEAD LATE TO TIGERS

AUSTINTOWN OH- n a matchup between two division 2 powerhouses. Austintown looked to match up with the historical Massillon Washington Tigers.
In a game that saw The Falcons jump Massillon for two straight touchdowns and possession in the first quarter. It looked to be all Fitch going forward.

However, the special teams unit of Fitch had their struggles against The Tigers. As unforced errors piled on, so did the score. Massillon responded with 17 straight points of their own, holding a 17-14 lead going into halftime.
Fitch came out of the half swinging, retaking the lead 21-17, with possession yet again. But as much as things changed, the more they stayed the same.

Massillon Washington bunkered down on defense and special teams. Forcing the first interception from Devin Sherwood this season. The Tigers were able to claim a 31-21 lead.
Fitch had their final opportunity when Devin Pounds was able to scoop a Massillon fumble and flip field position late in the 4th quarter.
Massillon and their defense held strong again, forcing Fitch into a field goal attempt down by 10. But The Tigers special teams unit came up big. Blocking the 2nd field goal attempt of the game, Massillon was able to secure the 31-21 victory over Fitch.

As The Falcons will have no time to rest, with an exciting AAC matchup with The Canfield Cardinals on October 1st. The Falcons will need to gear up to face one of Division 3s best.

FALCONS SPOT ON IN LOUISVILLE

LOUISVILLE OH- In a volleyball match between Louisville and Austintown. The two teams went 5 rounds in a slugfest Thursday night.

Louisville grabbed the early set lead and stunned The Falcons 25-23 in both set 1, ending Fitch’s 19 set winning streak. Grabbing a set lead twice on Fitch, Louisville also won a pivotal set 3 to take another lead against a team that only trailed in sets one other time this season.

Both teams had huge contributions down the stretch. Kelsey Adelman led The Lady Leopards offense with 11 kills on the night. Sophomore setter Addison Burick also filled in the box score, coming 1 service point shy of a triple double (36 assists and 20 digs).

However it was The Lady Falcons captains Jocelyn Jourdan and The Player of the Game Alyssa Leskovac that came up big for Fitch.
A combined 31 kills for the two Fitch captains. A night in which Leskovac was responsible for 17 of those kills, which led both teams on Thursday.

S3: Louisville 25 – Fitch 23
S4: Fitch 25 – Louisville 16

The Leopards (6-8) are home when they face Tuslaw next on Tuesday, September 28th.
The Falcons (12-1) will be on the road in a tough tri-match, taking on both Massillon Perry and Dover on Saturday, September 25th.

SETTING THE NEST

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Austintown Fitch volleyball program is, no doubt, one of the best in the entire state.

However, Fitch’s success is credited, in large part, to the setters of this Falcons squad. That of course being Erin Burke and Sammi Misik.
The two senior setters are part of a very dynamic Falcons offense. One that sees them compiling another impressive record on their road to the ultimate goal come tournament time.

There is no doubt the top kill-getters and captains of this Austintown squad are nothing short of special. However, as any volleyball enthusiast will tell you, an offense will only go as far as you setters take them. This, of course, rings true in the Austintoewn community.

In an injury that occured to Erin Burke, early on in The Falcons season, they needed someone to step up. That came in the form of Sammi Misik. Who not only led the Falcons to a multitude of victories at her time as setter, but also made Austintown as a team that much stronger.
This of course sounds all too familiar to when Erin Burke took over the setting for superstar Emma Bartlett.

As Ty Bartell discusses with the two Falcons setters about the team and goals this season. They also take the time to reflect on their time spent with Coach Jody Bartlett and the Austintown community as a whole.

In a segment we like to call “Setting the Nest”, these are the two Falcons seniors in Sammi Misik and Erin Burke.
