RICK’S RIDE

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Noah Ricks has been a popular voice heard across all YSN platforms this summer. Ricks called over 80 games during the Youngstown Class B baseball season this summer at Bob Cene Park.

Ricks began his broadcasting career at a very young age while at Chalker High School. Ricks traveled with the Wildcats basketball team, and did his own play-by-play on his cell phone at games. Ricks took a big leap in his career when he enrolled at Youngstown State University, to begin his studies in the sports broadcasting department.

Noah Ricks left the broadcasting department during his college tenure, and began a new journey in coaching. He loved to coach, but after the 2020 pandemic, Ricks jumped back in to his true passion of sports broadcasting. WESTERN RESERVE VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KRISIE HUGHES

BERLIN CENTER OH- When you think of a family name that has defined Western Reserve volleyball through the years, most people have Hughes pop into their mind. Aleah Hughes shined as a Blue Devil, and went on to have an amazing career at Youngstown State, her sister Alexis did the same, and now Alyvia is featured as a main stay on the team. So the next logical step would be to put a Hughes in the head coaching chair. Krisie Hughes takes the reigns for her first year at the helm of a program that is coming off a 22 win season.

Coach Hughes was kind enough to join YSN’s Running Point this week to give us a sneak peak of the 2022 Blue Devils. She talks with Ty Bartell and Anthony Hartwig about her family legacy, the pressures of keeping up the success of the program,  and much more. We are just over a week away from the start of the season, make sure you’re ready by checking out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Krisie Hughes.

STOKING THE FIRE

WELLSVILLE OH- The Wellsville Tigers volleyball team has plenty of strong talent featured on their roster. It is one of the reasons why Wellsville is considered one of the favorites to punch a ticket to state.

Presley Stokes set the world on fire in her freshman season showing everyone how elite of a talent she was. She shared YSN’s Freshman of the Year with Abby Emch from Crestview. She finished the season with 431 kills on the season.  With an impressive hitting percentage of .417.  She also shined on defense racking up 265 digs with only 26 defensive errors all season. She averaged 3 digs per set.  At the net she totaled 59 blocks.  56 of those 59 blocks were solo blocks.

This season Stokes won’t only be an asset on her offense, her blocking, and her digging, but she’ll also step into a setting position as part of a 6-2 offense. It might just make her the most well rounded player we see this season.  It’s an extremely selfless move to step up into a setting role for her team. Stokes may lose some kills from her total last season, but the team will be better for it.

Presley joined YSN’s Running Point after working out in Wellsville’s gym and talked about the upcoming season.  She talks with Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell about the competitiveness of her family, stepping into the role of a setter, and much more. Don’t miss this exclusive interview with one of the best volleyball players in the area, only on YSN.
