HISTORY MADE IN HEARTLAND

COLUMBIANA, OH- When Heartland Head Coach Josh Scott walked through the handshake line two weeks ago in Brookfield he had a feeling he’d see that team again.  “Sometimes in our program, we talk about losses are good, and it’s the type of loss- our kids went out there and let the pressure get to them a little bit, but we’re going to grow and learn from that,” said Scott.

And learn they did.

Heartland pulled out a dramatic 57-56 come from behind victory over the Warriors in the Purple Palace.  The Lions scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to take the Sectional Title- the first in program history.

Leading the way for Heartland was the duo of Nate Garzanich and Jonathan Bertovich with 13 points apiece.  Sam Osborn kicked in nine, while Luke Reynolds had 8 points for the victors.  Heartland controlled the perimeter on the evening, hitting from beyond 11 times.

For Brookfield, Isaiah Jones led all scorers with 20, while Donovan Pawlowski sank 15, while David Pawlowski had 16.

Heartland (19-5) will move on to District play at Struthers to set up a rematch against Lowellville on Monday.  Brookfield finishes their campaign at 11-12 on the year.

HEARTLAND SHOWS ITS TEETH AGAINST LISBON

COLUMBIANA, OH- The Lisbon Blue Devils jumped back into action on Wednesday to battle the red-hot Heartland Christian Lions in the Purple Palace.  With a big win over Wellsville in their rearview, the Devils were looking for another signature win down the stretch to jumpstart their tournament beliefs.

Unfortunately, Jon Bertovich and the mighty Lions had other plans.

Bertovich continued his sizzling senior campaign with a double-double that consisted of 24 points, and 10 boards.  Joel Morgan and Sam Osborn had 10 point showings for the Pride as well, while Luke Reynolds had a half dozen points and 3 rips for Heartland.

Lisbon was led by Hunter Dailey’s 19 points and 9 boards that went alongside Trevor Siefke’s 11 points, three helpers, and two rebounds.

Heartland (15-4) will turn their attention to Saturday’s game against South Range in the Palace, while Lisbon (11-7) will play host to East Palestine on Friday in an EOAC matchup.

HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JOSH SCOTT

COLUMBIANA, OH- In the midst of a chaotic season, coaches are asked to compartmentalize so much- travel, cancellations, practice schedules, and player management among many other things.  For Heartland Head Lion, Josh Scott- he’s been given a second plate because his first plate heaped over so much.

Josh Scott was faced with one of the more adverse moments of his personal life with a form of cancer and battled through the stages quickly and swiftly, and considers himself fortunate for being able to get through the process thus far relatively unscathed.

Atop of all of that, Coach Scott has jumped headfirst into an Athletic Director role at Heartland as well, to try and fill the shoes of Susie Shields upon her departure.

We sat down in the few minutes of downtime that Coach Scott has, and discussed ALL that is going on in the Purple Palace and beyond, on the latest edition of Heartland Christian Coach’s Corner with Josh Scott.
