LESTER LEADS THE WAY

BOARDMAN OH- The Spartans have certainly had to deal with the ups and downs of a softball season this year. A quick look at their roster might suggest that they wouldn’t be able to handle the mental strain of adversity, they have a core of juniors on the team. Most team’s juniors are very little experienced with the loss of 2020, but most of Boardman’s core has a complete freshman season of varsity softball under their belt. When you include that with a handful of seniors, Boardman has been able to ride the emotional roller coaster the year has brought. One of the driving forces for Boardman’s success is junior Madison Lester. Lester has become of the more dominant arms inside the circle that the area has to offer. Her ability to change speeds, and put movement on her pitches makes her very hard to hit. But maybe more important than that, Lester has stepped up to a leadership role on the team. She is a calming factor in the dugout, and does a fantastic job making sure her teammates stay up and positive.

Madison has solidified her place in among the area’s best with some impressive numbers in the circle, and at the plate. Lester has been a workhorse for the Spartans in the circle. She has thrown 90.1 innings on the year. Her ERA is 3.25, and she has struck out 110 batters. Along with that she has only walked 35. Lester also hits really well, standing with a batting average of .415. She has cranked 3 HR and knocked in 32 RBI.

Madison had a chance to catch up with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her impressive season. They discuss game preparation, peaking at the right time, and much more. The Spartans are gearing up for tournaments, and now their fans can too with the latest player profile “Lester Leads The Way.”
