WEST BRANCH WRAPS UP INDIANS

Girard watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-3 loss to West Branch on Saturday. West Branch scored on a home run by Sydney Mercer in the first inning and a double by Jordan Anderson in the second inning.

In the first inning, Girard got their offense started when Emily Rosace singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ryley Pittman was credited with the victory for West Branch. The fireballer surrendered three runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Aly Wakefield took the loss for Girard. Wakefield allowed 11 hits and six runs over six innings, striking out one.

The Indians had eight hits in the game. Seyhan Dede and Sophie Griffith all managed multiple hits. Griffith and Dede each collected two hits to lead.

The Warriors totaled 11 hits in the game. Anderson, Mercer, Skyler Greeneisen, and Pittman each collected multiple hits . Anderson led  with four hits in four at bats.

BULLDOGS SPLIT SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADER

GAME 1 vs University:

Four hits from Mary Brant helped lead the way for Poland over University 23-2 on Saturday. Brant singled in the third, tripled in the third, singled in the fourth, and homered in the fifth.

Poland got on the board in the first inning. Abby Farber grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, University tied things up at one.

The Bulldogs pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Connie Cougras singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Jackie Grisdale singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Cameryn Lattanzio hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Poland put up ten runs in the third inning. Leanne Williams, Grisdale, Lattanzio, Farber, Brant, and Katie McDonald each had RBIs in the frame.

McDonald got the win for the Bulldogs. The righthander went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking zero. Lattanzio threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lattanzio recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Poland launched one home run on the day. Brant had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

Poland had 24 hits in the game. Brant, Cougras, McDonald, Lattanzio, Emily Denney, Grisdale, Williams, and Farber each racked up multiple hits. McDonald, Cougras, and Brant each managed four hits to lead.

GAME 2 vs Steubenville:

Poland dropped the second game of the day to Steubenville 9-5 on Saturday.

Steubenville opened up an early lead in the first inning when an error scored one run.

Poland knotted the game up at two in the top of the second inning. Mary Brant hit a solo homer.

After Poland scored one run in the top of the sixth, Steubenville answered with one of their own. The Bulldogs scored when Abby Farber hit a solo homer. Steubenville then answered when Mary Marshall singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Steubenville took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Marshall singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, Lakyn Blackburn singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.

Jules King was the winning pitcher for Steubenville. King went seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out 13.

Katie McDonald took the loss for Poland. The righty allowed 11 hits and nine runs over six innings, striking out two and walking zero.

The Bulldogs hit two home runs on the day. Farber had a long ball in the sixth inning. Brant had a four bagger in the second inning.

Poland saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Jackie Grisdale and Emily Denney all managed multiple hits. Denney and Grisdale each managed two hits to lead.

Steubenville tallied 11 hits in the game. King, Amaria Swearengen, and Marshall all had multiple hits. King went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits.

RAIDERS BACK ON TRACK WITH TWO WINS

GAME 1 vs Talmadge:

Despite allowing three runs in the fourth inning, South Range defeated Tallmadge 9-3 on Saturday. Tallmadge scored its runs on a stolen base by Zoe Rensel.

The Raiders fired up the offense in the second inning. An error scored one run.

Bree Kohler got the win for South Range. The righty went seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out 14 and walking one.

Mia Zappola took the loss for Tallmadge. The pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs over five innings, striking out three.

South Range smacked two home runs on the day. Kohler went yard in the fourth inning. Juli Stachowicz had a long ball in the fourth inning.

The Raiders tallied 12 hits in the game. Kohler, Reagan Irons, and Kelly Szolek each had multiple hits. Kohler led with three hits in four at bats.

GAME 2 vs Stow:

South Range easily did away with Stow-Munroe Falls 11-1 on Saturday

The Raiders got things started in the first inning. They scored two runs when Juli Stachowicz tripled.

South Range scored four runs in the fifth inning. Jamie Feren and Hannah Ball all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Samantha Susany took the win for South Range. The righty went five innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out three.

South Range collected ten hits on the day. Bree Kohler and Stachowicz each managed multiple hits. Kohler went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits.

URSULINE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Mia Opalick threw a shutout to lead Ursuline past Berkshire 18-0 on Saturday.

Alyssa Sheely collected four hits in five at bats to help lead the Irish. Sheely doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and homered in the fifth.

Ursuline opened up scoring in the first inning. Sheely doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Irish scored eight runs in the third inning. Their big bats were led by Opalick, Layni Bednar, Maris Barbato, Paige Ogden , Julia Nutter, and Emily Holland, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Opalick took the win for Ursuline. The fireballer allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight.

Ursuline launched one home run on the day. Sheely had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

The Irish scattered 20 hits in the game. Sheely, Ogden , Barbato, Bednar, Holland, and Nutter all managed multiple hits. Sheely led with four hits in five at bats.

BLUE JAYS JUMP PAST WESTERN RESERVE

Western Reserve stayed in it until the end, but Jackson Milton pulled away late in a 10-7 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at seven with the Blue Jays batting in the bottom of the sixth when Emily Fultz doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, Western Reserve  did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately for them, Jackson Milton had 17 hits on the way to victory.

The Blue Devils got things moving in the first inning, when Hannah Heath doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Blue Jays evened things up at seven in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jenna Jones singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

After Western Reserve scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Milton answered with two of their own. Western Reserve scored when Heath singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Jackson Milton then answered when Chelsea Williams doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Macayle Thornhill singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Thornhill led the Blue Jays to victory on the rubber. The hurler allowed three hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, walking one.

Heath took the loss for Western Reserve. The bulldog surrendered four runs on eight hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

Joanie Dagnan started the game for Western Reserve. The pitcher surrendered six runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero. Riley Headley started the game for the Jays. The bulldog surrendered six runs on six hits over three and a third innings, striking out four

Western Reserve collected nine hits on the day. Caylee Selley, Ally Jones, and Heath all collected multiple hits. Selley went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead.

Jackson Milton racked up 17 hits. Headley, Fultz, Williams, Kaitlynn Bierdeman, and Ava Darney all had multiple hits. Headley led with four hits in four at bats.

REBELS HANG ON TO EARLY LEAD

COLUMBIANA OH- the temperature gradually climbed on Saturday afternoon as Crestview and Springfield met in a non conference battle. The Rebels scored 2 in the first, and that was all they needed in the 2-1 win over the Tigers.

The Rebels got their runs on one swing. After Kaedyn Sutton reached on an error in the outfield Karsyn Moore bashed a two run home runs to make the Tigers pay.

The Tigers scored their run as Abby Joseph reached on an error, and on that error Carlee Bacon turn to head home but tripped over the third baseman. Obstruction was called and Bacon was granted the score.

Outside of that both pitchers did a phenomenal job keeping the opposing offenses kept down.

Things got dramatic in the top of the 7th when Springfield put a runner on third with 2 outs. Maddi Lesnak came to the plate and Sutton got her looking to end the game.

Sutton was awarded the Baird Brothers player of the game for her work in the circle. Her final line was 7.0 IP 3 H 0 ER 4 BB 9 K.

Lesnak pitched well in the loss for the Tigers. Her final line was 6.0 IP 2 H 2 ER 2 BB 4 K.

Moore went 1-2 with a walk, a home run, 2 RBI and a run scored. Sutton went 1-3 on the day.

Bacon went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored for the Tigers. She was the only hitter with multiple hits.

BROOKFIELD BRINGS THE RAIN TO BEAT REBELS

Crestview watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-2 loss to Brookfield on Friday. The Warriors scored on a error in the first inning and a single by Sophia Hook in the second inning.

Crestview struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Brookfield, giving up nine runs.

The Warriors got things started in the first inning. An error scored two runs.

Miranda Nicholson pitched Brookfield to victory. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out eight.

Kaedyn Sutton took the loss for Crestview . Sutton lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs while striking out 11.

Crestview launched one home run on the day. Sutton put one out in the first inning.

McKenna Schultz, Sutton, and Katie Lissi each collected one hit to lead Crestview .

Brookfield racked up 11 hits in the game. Hook, Jenae Pugh, and Grace Schultz each collected multiple hits.

FALCONS BOMB SQUAD TOO MUCH FOR EDGEWOOD

AUSTINTOWN OH- Fitch launched a pair of home runs on their way to another dominating win over Edgewood 11-1. Lydia Spalding, and Ayla Ray both took the ball deep as the Falcons bats stayed hot.

Spalding also added a double to her day. Maddy Taylor also hit a double, a part of another multiple hit day for her. Other hitters gathering multiple hits for the Falcons were Sophia Senediak, and McKenna Hogan.

Spalding and Kayla Schubert combined for the work in the circle. Spalding threw 2.0 IP struck out 5 and allowed no hits. Schubert pitched 3 innings, gave up 2 hits and struck out 6.

Fitch is scheduled to travel to Canfield on Monday.

 

PEZZONE SHUTS DOWN SALEM

SALEM OH- Struthers pitcher Nikki Pezzone baffled the Quakers offense in a 4-0 win on Friday.

Kylie Skinner, Rylie Troy & Lauryn Barton had the three hits for Salem. Chase Toy, Laila Murray & Rylie Troy each stole a base.

Savannah Schaff went the distance striking out 9 Wildcats. Nikki Pezzone struck out 15 Quakers in the win.

The outfield of Kylie Skinner, Jenna McClish & Lauryn Barton all made great defense catches for Salem with a total of 6 putouts without an error.

CHAMPION STRIKES LAST IN 9 INNING MARATHON

BOARDMAN OH- On a cold Friday night Boardman and Champion brought the fire with a incredibly entertaining 9 inning thriller. Champion was the last to score, and picked up the 4-3 win, but both teams really put their best foot forward.

The Flashes struck first in the third when Morgan Davis singled to lead off the inning. A couple of wild pitches moved her to third, and then Cassidy Shaffer hit her in with a sac fly to right field.

Boardman would tie the game later in the 5th when Maddy Wymer singled, then her pinch runner Morgan Cherne would eventually score on a wild pitch.

Champion would take the lead right back in the next half inning while Taylor Fuller knocked in Emma Gumont, and Brooke Whitt who reached on an error would later score on a wild pitch. Champion led 3-1.

In the 7th inning Boardman quickly found themselves down to their last out. Then, Dana Haus singled, Kat Ohoro followed her up with a base hit. Then Jenna Olexa walked loading the bases for Maddy Lester. Lester smashed a single into right field scoring two and tying the game at 3. Nina Scavelli would fly out to deep right field to end the seventh giving all of the Spartan fans a stoppage of breath.

Both teams went scoreless in the eight, but it was Champion that would find a way to bring a run across in the 9th. The nine hitter for the Flashes Davis tripled with two outs to bring up Shaffer. Shaffer then singled home the go ahead run to put Champion up 4-3. Shaffer would then set the Spartans down in order to end the game in 9 innings.

Shaffer went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI to earn the Baird Brother Player of the Game. Shaffer also got the win in the circle. Her final line was 9.0 IP 9 H 3 ER 3 BB 1 K. Bella Meyer went 2-3 for the Flashes, and Davis went 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

Ohoro took the loss for Boardman. Her final line was 8.2 IP 8 H 1 ER 2 BB 7 K. Lester went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI. Nadia Rawhneh went 2-4 as well.
