HOBAN ARMS SHUT THE DOOR

AKRON OH- Justice Buckner drove in four runs on one hit to lead Archbishop Hoban past University School 4-0 on Wednesday. In the fourth inning, Buckner hit a grand slam to left field.

Andrew Karhoff earned the win for the Knights. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. Aaron Moss took the loss for University School. He went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two. Landan Browning pitched one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for Hoban in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Will Givens went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the  Knights in hits. Karhoff collected two hits in three at bats.

HOBAN MAKES IT A HAPPY TRIP HOME

PIGEON FORGE TN- Taylor Gerring collected three hits in four at bats, as Archbishop Hoban defeated East Jessamine 11-0 on Saturday in Tennessee. Gerring tripled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.

The Knights got on the board in the top of the first inning after Gulia Scaglione tripled, and Mya Akers grounded out, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Savannah Regan hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Gerring singled, scoring two runs. The Knights added two runs in the third after Adeline Herstich singled.

Gracelyn Schultz earned the win for Archbishop Hoban. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Remie Smith took the loss for East Jessamine. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking three.

The Knights accumulated 11 hits in the game. Akers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led with three runs batted in. She went 1-for-3 on the day. Gerring and Madison Shenigo each collected three hits.

HOBAN PASSES THE BATS IN ANOTHER DOMINANT WIN

Gracelyn Schultz was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in Archbishop Hoban’s 11-1 victory over Whitley County on Thursday in Tennessee. Schultz gave up four hits and one run over six innings while walking two. Taylor Gerring collected four hits in four at bats in the win. Gerring singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

The Knights opened the scoring in the second after Elli Weigand homered to left field, scoring two runs. They added one run in the third. Mya Akers tripled, making the score 3-0. They scored five more runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gerring singled, scoring one run, Akers doubled, scoring two runs, Schultz tripled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

Hoban piled up 15 hits in the game. Akers drove the middle of the lineup, leading with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Gulia Scaglione and Schultz each collected multiple hits. Gerring stole two bases.

KNIGHTS RESPOND WITH A BLOWOUT

Savannah Regan drove in four runs on three hits to lead Archbishop Hoban past Pike County Central 16-0 on Wednesday. Regan doubled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two. Hoban scored 12 runs in the fifth inning on the way to victory. Madison Shenigo singled, scoring one run, Elli Weigand singled, scoring one run, Ashlyn Stepp induced Kalie Watson to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Regan doubled, scoring two runs, Taylor Gerring doubled, scoring one run, Adeline Herstich singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Nevaeh Peters singled, scoring two runs, and Weigand singled, scoring two runs.

The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. They first got on the board when Mya Akers singled, scoring one run.

Alivia Havanas earned the win for Hoban. The righty surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking one. Stepp took the loss for Pike County Central. They went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 14 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits, striking out none and walking four.

The Knights piled up 18 hits in the game. Regan, Weigand, and Peters each collected three hits. Gulia Scaglione, Akers, and Shenigo each collected multiple hits. They turned two double plays in the game. Hoban was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Peters made the most plays with eight.

HOBAN ON THE WRONG END OF OFFENSIVE MARATHON

PIGEON FORGE TN- Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Archbishop Hoban fell to Madisonville-North Hopkins 10-9 on Tuesday. The Maroons collected 14 hits, while Hoban had 12.

The Knights fell behind by six runs in the fourth inning, but then tried to fight back. They closed the gap by scoring on a home run, a single, and a triple. North Hopkins got on the board in the first inning after Addy Prow singled, scoring two runs. The Knights tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a ground out by Taylor Gerring, and a single by Mya Akers.

Hoban took the lead in the bottom of the third. Savannah Regan scored after tagging up, to give Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights the advantage, 3-2.

The Maroons flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits to take a 9-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Bri Petitt that drove in two. Gulia Scaglione homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Knights. Jaela Bottoms hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh for North Hopkins.

Mackenzie Stoltz earned the win for North Hopkins. She surrendered 12 hits and nine runs (eight earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. Alivia Havanas pitched four innings in relief for the Knights. The reliever gave up four hits and one run while, striking out eight and walking none.

HOBAN LOOKS IMPRESSIVE IN BLOWOUT OF JFK

AKRON OH- Parker Falkenstein collected three hits in three at bats, as Hoban defeated Warren JFK 10-0 on Wednesday. Falkenstein doubled in the first inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

The Knights scored seven runs in the first inning on the way to victory. an error scored one run, one run scored on another play, Justice Buckner doubled, scoring two runs, Cade Marks singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Falkenstein singled, scoring ohe run. Hoban added one run in the second after Zach Karhoff singled.

Andrew Karhoff earned the win for the Knights. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Michael Bartoe took the loss for JFK. The reliever went two innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out one and walking three. Jaden Rishel started the game. He allowed one hit and three runs (zero earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking none.

Peyton Weigand tossed one and one-third innings of zero-run ball for the Knights in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none. Buckner and Michael Ciavolella each drove in two runs.

Hoban had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Grady Falkenstein and Will Givens led the team with two walks each. Falkenstein and Karhoff each stole multiple bases.

Caleb Hadley, Bartoe, and Andrew Lapolla each collected one hit for JFK. The Eagles turned two double plays in the game.

KNIGHTS REPEAT HOPES GET LEFT IN AKRON

AKRON, Ohio — The Archbishop Hoban Knights boys’ basketball team saw their season come to a close as they fell to the Garfield Heights Bulldogs with a final score of 52-43 in the Division I regional semi-final game on Friday night at The James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron.

Hoban came out strong, particularly from beyond the arc, thanks to the efforts of freshman standout John Johnson. Johnson’s sharp shooting helped the Knights take a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Garfield Heights found their stride in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and scoring in transition to outscore Hoban 16-9 in the period, claiming a 27-22 halftime advantage.
The third quarter saw both teams trading blows evenly, with each side tallying 11 points. Free throws dominated the scoring, with the game remaining tightly contested from start to finish. In the fourth quarter, Hoban fought hard to close the deficit to one possession multiple times, but Garfield Heights ultimately made key plays down the stretch. The Bulldogs sealed the victory with a 14-10 final quarter, securing their spot in the elite eight.

Leading the charge for Garfield Heights was Marcus Johnson with 17 points, supported by Deandre Jones and CJ Little, who contributed 13 points each. On the other side, Hoban was paced by freshman sensation John Johnson, who also finished with 17 points, while Jonas Nichols added 15 points.

MCCARTHY HEROICS GIVE HOBAN A THREE PEAT

ELYRIA, Ohio — In a gripping showdown, the Archbishop Hoban Knights boys basketball team emerged victorious in a thrilling 47-45 upset over The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees.

The contest began with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess in a high-scoring first quarter. Luke Skalijac led The Bees’ charge with an impressive shooting display, but the Knights responded with a relentless scoring assault led by Jonas Nichols, granting Hoban a narrow 22-17 lead after the opening period.

The second quarter witnessed an evenly matched battle, with both teams trading baskets to maintain a competitive pace. Despite The Bees’ efforts to close the gap, The Knights maintained their advantage, entering halftime with a 32-27 lead.

As the second half commenced, the tempo slowed considerably, with stifling defense from both sides limiting scoring opportunities. The Bees managed to outscore Hoban 8-6 in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to just one basket at 38-35 heading into the final period.

The intensity escalated in the fourth quarter, with both teams exchanging leads in the closing minutes of regulation. With the score tied at 45-45 and only 8.7 seconds remaining, Hoban seized possession of the ball. In a heart-stopping moment, Jonas Nichols’ attempted jumper fell short but was promptly rebounded by Hoban junior James McCarthy, who converted a decisive bucket at the buzzer, clinching the victory for the Knights.

Jonas Nichols, with a team-high 19 points, and James McCarthy, who secured the game-winning basket, were named Players of the Game for their outstanding performances. Additionally, Sam Greer contributed 11 points to pace The Knights’ scoring effort.
Meanwhile, Luke Skalijac led all scorers with an impressive 27-point performance for The Bees.
With the win, Archbishop Hoban (18-7) claims their third consecutive district championship and advances to the regional semifinals, where they will face the winner of the northeast 6 bracket, The Garfield Heights Bulldogs (24-1), on Wednesday, March 13th at 7 p.m.

GREER THE PIONEER

AKRON OH- Archbishop Hoban High School has a long and illustrious history of many great names
that have walked the halls of “The Castle” that sits on One Holy Cross Boulevard. Sports and success seemingly go hand-in-hand at Hoban, with multiple stats championships across a large variety of sports, primarily in the last ten years! Boys basketball got to enjoy a taste of the top when they completed a Cinderella story run to capture the Division 1 State Championship, the smallest D-1 school to do so.

However, in both recent, as well as, historic success for boys basketball at Hoban, there was never a Knight that stayed a Knight through the highest honor of going to West Point Military Academy and becoming a Black Knight! Hoban senior Josh Greer will be the first basketball player to blaze a trail to that next level when he has the opportunity to play football for Army.

It’s more than just sports for Josh Greer, it is about creating a legacy that generations of his family can be proud of. With a long history of community service and service in general with Hoban, Josh Greer sees it as taking it a step further, to serve at the highest possible level. Coming from a fantastic family, known for their love of athletics, The Army-Navy Game will now carry a little more meaning throughout the Greer household.

As The Knights basketball team navigates their way through the playoffs this year, it has a different feeling for Greer, knowing that anytime he laces up the Nikes, it could be his last. But staying in the moment is something Josh has excelled at since day one at Hoban and as he an the other Knights seniors lead their squad into districts, The Knights hope the postseason magic returns for one final run! HOBAN SURVIVES A STRONGSVILLE SURGE

ELYRIA, Ohio — In a thrilling clash at Elyria Catholic High School, the Archbishop Hoban Knights boys basketball team held off the Strongsville Mustangs’ fierce comeback attempt to secure a nail-biting 55-54 victory in the division 1, northeast 5 district semifinal.
The matchup unfolded with both teams exchanging momentum-shifting shots in a tightly contested opening quarter. Despite spirited efforts from both sides, neither team managed to gain a decisive advantage, resulting in a deadlock at 13-13 by the end of the first period.

However, the second quarter saw a decisive surge from the Knights, who capitalized on stellar defensive plays by Kenny Scott and Sam Greer to ignite their transition offense. Behind a 17-6 run, Hoban surged ahead to claim a 30-19 lead heading into halftime.
Following the break, the game mirrored the intensity of the first quarter, with both teams trading baskets throughout the third quarter. Despite Strongsville’s efforts to chip away at the deficit, Hoban maintained control, entering the final quarter with a 41-30 lead.
In a dramatic fourth quarter, the Mustangs launched a spirited comeback bid, employing a pressing defense to force turnovers and converting crucial 3-pointers on offense. Despite narrowing the margin to a single point, Strongsville fell short as time expired, allowing Hoban to escape with the narrow 55-54 win.
Kenny Scott earned the title of Player of the Game for Hoban, showcasing his offensive prowess with 13 points while also making significant contributions on the defensive end with his active

hands. Leading the Knights in scoring was Jonas Nichols with 15 points, supported by Sam Greer’s 11 points primarily in the post.

On the opposing side, Josh Byers led the Mustangs with an impressive 24-point performance, followed by Ryan Byers with 11 points.

With the victory, #12 Archbishop Hoban (17-7) advances to the division 1, region 1, northeast 5 district final, where they will face #2 Brecksville-Broadview Heights (20-4) on Saturday, March 9th at Elyria Catholic High School, with a 2 p.m. tip-off.
