LEETONIA BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH GUY COSTELLO

LEETONIA OH- It’s a new era inside Leetonia boys basketball. Guy Costello takes the reigns of the Bears this season. He is going to try to turn a competitive team into a team that knows how a win. It starts with culture. A winning type of culture that helps you make clutch plays down the stretch. Coach Costello knows it’s going to be a challenge to establish a culture in his first year, but is sure his team will be one that is disciplined, and high in effort. The hope is that will transfer into wins on the floor.

Coach Costello took the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point to help us preview the Bears season. He talks about players returning, creating a culture, and much more. BEARS FALTER AGAINST SOUTHERN

LEETONIA OH- Leetonia continued to struggle to find their feet on Friday night as they got upended by Southern 49-14. It was still just the fourth game of the season for the Bears. They drop to -13 on the year. Southern stays undefeated in the EOAC, and 5-2 overall.

Leetonia will try to get back on track in Week 8 as they host Lisbon for the Spaghetti Bowl. Southern will travel to Valley Christian next Saturday.

VALLEY STAYS IN EOAC RACE

LEETONIA OH- ValLey Christian kept pace with the teams at the top of the EOAC on Friday. They were able to dust off Leetonia 34-14 to move to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the EOAC. Leetonia has only played three games on the season. They will keep trying to get their feet under them while playing teams with twice as many reps under their belts.

Valley Christian will keep battling for the top spot in the league Saturday as they host Columbiana. Leetonia is 1-2 and will look ahead to a road game against Southern.

CLIPPERS CLEAR AWAY LEETONIA

COLUMBIANA OH- The Columbiana Clippers got their tenth win of the season on Tuesday with a straight sweep of Leetonia. (25-11 25-19 25-6)

Julia Rapp led the Clippers offense with 8 kills. Tori Long filled up the stat sheet with 5 kills, 4 aces, and 11 digs. Cameron Perkins had 14 assists, 6 kills, and 6 digs. Liv Cmil led the defense with 15 digs.

Columbiana will host East Palestine on Thursday. Leetonia will also be home on Thursday as the play host to Southern.

UNITED TAKES FLIGHT OVER BEARS

LEETONIA OH- United proved to be too much for Leetonia on Friday night. The Eagles had to miss week 4 due to a cancelation, and an extra week to prepare did the trick. United won 33-0.

Parker Newburn was thrown into a tough situation being called on to go under center for the Eagles. The lights were not too bright for the young man. He opened his night with a touchdown pass, and ran for two more after halftime. Cody Cope also found the end zone on the ground. Luke Courtney got some work in as he kicked in two field goals as well.

United is now 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in the EOAC. They will look to continue their winning ways in Week 6 at Columbiana. Leetonia will host Valley Christian hoping to bounce back.

LISBON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT

LISBON OH- Lisbon got their second win in a row on Tuesday night as they took care of Leetonia in straight sets. (25-23 25-16 25-7)

Eliza Baker had a great offensive showing for the Blue Devils finishing with 8 kills. She also contributed 5 digs. McKenna Dailey led the back row with 11 digs.

Lisbon will look to make it three in a row on Thursday as they travel to Southern. Leetonia returns home and they will host Sebring on Wednesday.

CLIPPERS CLOBBER LEETONIA

LEETONIA OH- Columbiana went on the road Thursday night and wasted no time sweeping Leetonia. (25-11 25-9 25-8)

Ava Heinrich had a big night for Columbiana leading the team with 10 kills. She also had a pair of digs, and a pair of aces. Julia Rapp added 8 kills to the cause and served up 5 aces. Ellie Jackson led the team in both assists with 15, and digs with 6.

Columbiana will travel to East Palestine on Tuesday to continue EOAC play.

2021 LEETONIA FOOTBALL PREVIEW

LEETONIA OH- Friday nights in the fall are special.  The high school football season brings a very unique feeling to the local communities.  All the fans in the are love getting together on a Friday night to cheer on their team.  Before they do though, YSN’s Running Point has previewed every team in the YSN family.  Join Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell as they preview the 2021 Leetonia Football team.

ROMIGH TOSSES NO HITTER TO ADVANCE BLUE JAYS TO DISTRICTS

NO 1. Blue Jays win Sectional Final

The number one seeded Jackson-Milton Blue Jays took on the Leetonia Bears in the sectional final game on Thursday night.

The Blue Jays got off to a hot start scoring 6 runs in the first game. The offense would keep up the rest of the game and total 12 runs on 9 hits. The Blue Jays were led by Gavin Sahli who was 2-3 at the dish with 2 RBI’s.

Jackson-Milton got a no hit night out of their starter Aaren Romigh, who went 5 complete inning with no hits allowed.

Jackson Milton won the ballgame by a final score of 12-0 after 5 innings. They will take on Western Reserve next Tuesday for the district semifinals.

EAGLES BLOW AWAY LEETONIA

LEETONIA OH-

Landon Rhodes gave Leetonia fits, as he bagged four hits in United’s 21-6 victory on Tuesday. Rhodes doubled in the second, singled in the fifth, singled in the seventh, and singled in the seventh.

United collected 22 hits and Leetonia had six in the high-scoring affair.

The Eagles got things moving in the first inning. They scored one run when Tyler Dickens singled.

The Eagles tallied eight runs in the fifth inning. They put the pressure on, lead by singles by Nevin Hahlen, Dickens, and Rhodes, a walk by Mikey Bardo, by Grant Knight, and a double by Tanner McCormack

McCormack was on the hill for United. The pitcher went six innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out 12. Loudon Stryffeler recorded the last out to earn the save for United Eagles Varsity.

United totaled 22 hits. Rhodes, Dickens, Bardo, McCormack, Andrew Winn, Brock Rhoades, and Hahlen each collected multiple hits. Dickens and Rhodes each collected four hits to lead.
