A tough week in Raiderville as Coach Yeagley’s troops fell short to a Garfield Heights powerhouse team from Division II.

However, there’s not much time to sulk because standing in the way this week of South Range and Week 11 is Louisville.

Have no fear Raider Faithful-South Range has been here before.  With the adjustments in place, the Raiders must once again prove their worth in 2018-and if they win-all indications are they are playoff bound.

We caught up with Coach Yeagley to discuss all this and more on this week’s South Range Football Coach’s Corner with Dan Yeagley!

TAKE A TRIP TO ALEC ISLAND

You’ve heard of lockdown corners?  You’re familiar with guys that are the heartbeat of their team?  What if we told you at South Range this young man is one in the same?

South Range Senior Alec Ballentine is having an incredible start to his final year!  Ballentine is the top DB for Range, and plays lockdown on isolated scenarios.  What does that mean, exactly?  It means that when the Raider Coaching Staff lines up on defense, the receiver goes on a one-way trip to Alec Island.  It may sound like fun, but it comes at the expense of the opposing offense.

We caught up with Ballentine and talked about school, football, and his future in burgundy and gold!

A big home victory for the Bulldogs at home last week that keep hopes alive for another EOAC Championship!  The Bulldogs were able to dial up the offense and keep Leetonia without a score in Week 7, and now turn their attention to Toronto this week!

BENDER FAR FROM BROKEN

Imagine the difficulty of not playing a sport for three years of your high school career, and deciding to go out for the most popular sport in school your senior year!  The emotions that must go into a decision like that could be excruciating for the normal teenager.  However, the cool, calm, and collect Senior at East Palestine took everything in stride, then took a starting spot at wide receiver this year.

Dan Bender isn’t the rule.  In fact, he’s the exception when it comes to his athletic prowess.  Bender’s skill on the field is only trumped by his manners and kindness off of it.  A young man with strong values, and a strong work ethic has built his opportunity for a grand finale at EPHS.  Some of the pressure he faces would be enough to break most student-athletes, but for Bender, it’s just another day at the office.

At first look at Girard Senior Jack DelGarbino, you can’t help but be caught up with the quiet confidence that he exudes.  DelGarbino instills a blue-collar work ethic that comes from great conversations with those that have come before him, including his father, JT.

As many have-Jack learned the majority of his lessons through the experience, whether it win, lose, or draw.  A multi-sport athlete, DelGarbino is a leader on the football field, and a state and national champion on the wrestling mat.

YSN’s Britt Taylor caught up with Princeton’s newest recruit, and talks over his plans for the future in this week’s Girard Player Profile: THAT’S A FACT, JACK!

 

IRONS SHARPENS IRONS

If you’re born with the last name like Irons, you better be able to handle some heat.  For South Range Junior, Emily Irons, she is battle-tested and has continued to be the spark that starts the fire for the Lady Raiders.  Irons actually leads the team in hitting percentage, which means she has the most kills with the least errors.

A savvy veteran who makes the most of her athletic ability, but reads the defense like it’s a line from a Dr. Seuss novel.

The athletic ability is earned, and God-given.  Both Emily’s parents were exceptional athletes, her older brother is a leader on the basketball court, and her younger sister shares the volleyball court with her this year.  For Emily, she has the ability and the determination to keep raising the bar for the family name.  Oh, by the way…Emily plays a sport each and every season.

In Beaver Local, there’s been a transition happening on the football field.  Coach McKenzie is taking the Beavers back to smashmouth, rough and rowdy football.  In a day where Wildcat formation and trick plays are all the hype, the Beaver look to regain their identity as the area’s top powerhouse team.  Back are the days where you knew you played the Red and White the next day because they left you black and blue.

Leading the charge in that capacity is Junior, Ethan Lewis.  Lewis, although a skilled position, has made his living off of being tough to take down.  In the midst of all the transition, Lewis has been a constant variable for success.  He’s adapted well into the program and serves as one of the leaders of this football team.  Although he has another year to play, that just scares the opposition even more, as that means he has another year to grow his game.  In lieu of the struggle the Beavers will face, Lewis will help provide the leadership.

MORRIS AT THE CENTER OF IT ALL IN LIVERPOOL

Skilled position players get all the accolades when it comes to football, as it’s a game of statistics, and points.

However, nobody touches the football more than the center position.  For East Liverpool, their center is a man of few words but incredible brilliance on Friday nights!

PJ Morris has Potter Pride running through his veins and comes from a family that bleeds Blue and White.  So, it comes as no surprise when Morris takes this season, his senior year, so personal.  He is looking to create his impression, his legacy, and one that leaves a positive step toward moving the football program forward in East Liverpool!

COLUMBIANA COACH’S CORNER WITH BOB SPAITE (EP 6)

After a big win last week over Toronto, the Clippers are flying high on a two-game win streak.  Catching the altitude at the right time is what it’s all about, and Coach Spaite and the Clippers are doing just that.

The Clips will set up shop at Wellsville this week and try to cage the Tigers and get over .500 for the first time this season!

How did Toronto force Columbiana to a “Plan C”?  Has there been a player that has risen to the occasion?
