TATAR’S 100TH K HELPS HOWLAND CRUISE

Howland defeated Niles HS 15-0 on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Callie Vardavas struck out Jules Money to finish off the game.

Howland secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the second inning. Cloe Lopez, Alyssa Massucci, Zoe King, Kayla Campbell, Alexia Spangler all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

One bright spot for Niles was a single by Kennedy Barrell in the third inning.

Brooke Tatar was in the pitcher’s circle for Howland. The hurler allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out nine and walking zero.

Zoey Beck was on the rubber for Niles. The pitcher allowed nine hits and 11 runs over two innings, walking zero. Isabella Rexroad threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Tigers launched one home run on the day. Jayde Fizet had a four bagger in the second inning.

Howland had 13 hits in the game. Massucci, King, Lopez, Fizet, and Spangler all managed multiple hits. Spangler, Fizet, Lopez, King, and Massucci each collected two hits to lead. Howland was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Campbell had the most chances in the field with 14.
