HUBBARD PICKS UP ANOTHER BIG WIN

AUSTINTOWN, OHIO- The Austintown-Fitch Falcons fought back after falling down by five runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 6-5 defeat to Hubbard on Saturday.

The Falcons scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Frank Senediak, a single by Drew Kaschak, a single by Carson Fuller, and a wild pitch during Rocco DiFlorio’s at bat.

The Falcons couldn’t keep up with Hubbard early in the game as the Eagles took the lead on a groundout in the first inning when Gabe Rusnak grounded out, scoring one run.

The Falcons responded by putting up four runs in the seventh inning as the big inning was driven by singles by Kaschak and Fuller, by DiFlorio, and a double by Senediak.

Andrew Kali pitched Hubbard to victory as the fireballer allowed nine hits and five runs over six and a third innings, striking out three.  Braydon Songer threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Hubbard also scattered seven hits in the game. Songer and Kali all managed multiple hits for Hubbard. The Falcons collected nine hits. Kaschak and Jackson Cheeks all had multiple hits and Kaschak went 3-for-3 to lead things at the plate. Frank Pugliese was on the mound for the Falcons as the bulldog went two innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out two. Nik Kyprianou and John Darnley entered the game as relief, throwing four innings and one inning respectively.

Hubbard will return to play on Monday when they travel to Lakeview to face off against the Bulldogs. Austintown-Fitch will try and get back on the winning track when they travel to take on the Canfield Cardinals on Monday.

RAIDERS TURN THEIR SHIPS TO SALEM

CANFIELD, OHIO- The South Range Raiders had everything working on Saturday, winning big over Salem 12-2.

Salem opened up scoring in the first inning when Gavin Wilms doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. The Raiders knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the first inning, when Wilms’s wild pitch allowed two runs to score.

The Raiders pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning when in the second inning, Shane Lindstrom drew a walk, scoring one run, Nick Plunkett drew a walk, scoring one run, Tyson Tarajack was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Joe Aey singled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.

Jake Shumate got the start for the Raiders and went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out three. Wilms went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Salem in hits and toed the rubber for Salem and lasted three innings, allowing six hits and nine runs while striking out two. Cyle Burt threw one and one-third innings out of the bullpen.

South Range will travel to Struthers on Monday, while Salem will try and bounce back when they take on West Branch on Tuesday.

FALCONS AVENGE EARLY SEASON LOSS

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – In a matchup of teams who are very evenly matched record wise, Austintown Fitch never trailed in their Friday night matchup against South Range as they put away the Raiders 8-2.

Rocco DiFlorio made the presence of the Fitch offense felt right out of the gate when he grounded out to bring a run home. After Fitch scored one run in the bottom of the third, the action packed inning in the game for the Falcons was the bottom of the fourth as they put four runs on the board with Brady Loew, Drew Kaschak, and Jackson Cheeks, all driving in runs in the frame.

The hot bat for Fitch was Hayden Warmouth who had a 2-for-3 day at the dish and Cheeks was the hot man in the RBI department with three. The victorious pitcher was Carter Owens of Fitch. The reliable righty gave his team six and two-thirds innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six batters.

Next for Fitch is a quick turnaround to take the home field against a surging Hubbard team at noon on Saturday. Fitch will look to make it six wins in a row and Hubbard will look to start a new winning streak of their own.

ITS A TWIN BILL SWEEP FOR SPRINGFIELD

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – Springfield went double dipping Thursday to sweep a doubleheader with Sebring. The first game was won pretty handedly as in non baseball teams it took two touchdowns and a field goal for Springfield to take out Sebring 17-0.

The lineup card was filled with hits, RBI’s, and runs in game one. Parker Dobson, Ruark, and Vincent Woods each had multi-hit games with Ruark leading the team with four runs batted in. Dobson took the ball and toed the runner for game one and came out as the victorious pitcher going three innings only giving up one hit and striking out seven batters.

Game two was a lot closer for Sebring but Springfield still prevailed. There was no fall off in offense from the first game as Springfield kept the ball rolling in the first inning when Braden Butler had a one RBI double.

Springfield scored three more runs in the third inning to make it 5-0 when Vincent Woods, Parker Dobson, and Blake Poole each drove in base runners in their half of the inning. Poole went 2-for-2 with a bay in his hands to lead his Tiger team in hits for game two.

Barber got through five well pitched innings, allowing one run on four hits while ringing up 11 Sebring batters.

Springfield will go to battle with another MVAC Scarlet Tier opponent on Monday in Western Reserve at 5:00 p.m. as both teams battle for positioning in the conference standings.

MOHAWK CONTINUES TO ROLL; EDGE LAUREL

BESSEMER, PA- Mohawk ran off with the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Laurel on Thursday. The game was tied at two with the Warriors batting in the bottom of the sixth when Bobby Fadden was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Mohawk pitchers struck out 11, while Laurel pitchers sat down five.

Laurel got things started in the second inning. Laurel scored two runs when Hunter Kobialka singled.

The Warriors knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Mason Hopper doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Ethan Hare got the win for Mohawk. Hare lasted four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six. Fadden threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Robert Kissick was on the hill for Laurel. The pitcher lasted five and a third innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out four. Tyler Shearer threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Briar Crawford started the game for the Warriors. The bulldog went two innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out three

Hopper went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Mohawk in hits.

THE ‘VILLE BLANKS BOARDMAN ON THE ROAD

BOARDMAN, OH- The Louisville Leopards defeated Boardman 3-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Zach Root struck out Grayson Eicher to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Louisville pitchers struck out four, while Boardman pitchers sat down seven.

One bright spot for Boardman was a perfect day at the dish by Charlie Young.

Connor Morley was the winning pitcher for the Leopards. The righty allowed three hits and zero runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Zach Root threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Adam Konnerth was on the pitcher’s mound for Boardman. The bulldog surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, striking out four. Kevin Pekkaren and Dylan Barrett entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

Morley led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two hits in three at-bats.

Young went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Boardman in hits. Boardman was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

REBS BATTLE BACK TO EARN SPLIT WITH HEARTLAND

COLUMBIANA, OH- The Crestview Rebels ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Heartland Christian on Thursday. The game was tied at three with Rebels batting in the top of the fifth when Ethan Feezle singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Heartland Christian scored three runs in the second inning, but the Rebels still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Heartland Christian came thanks to a walk by Bender and a single by Seth Walker.

Crestview got things started in the first inning. Cade Hancox drove in one when Hancox singled.

Cayden Booth was credited with the victory for the Rebels. The righty allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one.

Morgan took the loss for Heartland Christian. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out five.

Jesse McKee went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Rebels in hits.

Heartland Christian had six hits in the game. Walker and Tsarnas each managed multiple hits for Heartland Christian. Heartland Christian was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.

EAGLES RUN RULE LEETONIA

HANOVERTON, OHIO- Jason Pratt didn’t allow a single run as the United Eagles defeated Leetonia 11-0 on Thursday.

The Eagles secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning as Nevin Hahlen, Trent Newburn, Waden Kiko, and Grant Irwin each had RBIs in the big inning.

The Eagles totaled 13 hits as Newburn, Ryan Keir, Kiko, and Newburn all managed multiple hits.  Newburn led things at the plate going 3 for 4. The Eagles tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases with Brock Rhodes leading the way with three.

Pratt earned the win on the mound as the pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out nine and walking one.

Gabe Evans took the loss for Leetonia. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and 11 runs over four innings, striking out one.

United will return to play when they take on Minerva at home on Friday. Leetonia will travel to East on Monday.

TIGERS TAKE A WIN BACK TO THE JUNGLE

SALEM, OHIO- The Salem Varsity Quakers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 3-2 loss to Howland on Thursday as the Howland took the lead on a single in the second inning to stay in front for good.

The Tigers tallied seven hits on the day as Jak Kenney and Brode Biggin all managed multiple hits for Howland that started in the second inning, when Jak Kenney singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Brendan Ray earned the victory on the hill for Howland as The bulldog surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out 11. Cyle Burt led the Quakers with two hits in three at bats as Lance Bailey was on the pitcher’s mound for the as the hurler surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out three.


Howland will look to stay strong against Girard on Friday, while Salem will try and bounce back against Warren JFK on Friday.

FLASHES CANT STAND UP TO NEW CASTLE

WARREN, OHIO- The Champion Flashes stayed in it until the end, but the New Castle Hurricanes pulled away late in a 4-2 victory on Thursday.

The Hurricanes trailed 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning when Dominic Cade singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Carson Fife, Tyler Skaggs, Hunter Haines, Zack Morris, and Carter Boggs each collected one hit to lead Champion at the plate. Dominick Ratkovich started the game for the Hurricanes as the pitcher surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, walking zero before Dominick Mrozek was credited with the victory. The bulldog allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking zero.

Fife took the loss for Champion as he lasted six and a third innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out six and walking zero.

Champion will try and bounce back when they take on Cardinal Mooney on Saturday.
