LAKEVIEW THE LAST STANDING IN SLUGFEST

MYRTLE BEACH SC- Lakeview trailed by as many as 12, but came back to top Hopewell-Loudon on Saturday, 17-16. Lakeview  built a 4-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off Hopewell-Loudon’s charge. Hopewell-Loudon closed the gap by scoring on a single, an error, and a line out.

Lakeview  scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Jason DeMonica singled, scoring one run, Andrew Brown singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Hayden Newton singled, scoring one run, and Eli Gough singled, scoring one run.

The Bulldogs scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. An error scored two runs, Gough drew a walk, scoring one run, Matthew DeProfio singled, scoring three runs, and Brayden Brickman induced Brown to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lakeview broke up the tie when Nolan Toth singled, scoring two runs. Then a ground out by Isaiah Lantz followed to extend the lead to 15-12.

The Bulldogs accumulated 12 hits in the game. Lantz set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading with three hits in four at bats. Brown, Newton, DeProfio, and Toth each drove in two runs. Brown paced the offense with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating 13 walks for the game.
