ARGIRO TACKLES ADVERSITY

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH- Springfield Senior, Dante Argiro has no white flag to wave, no towel to throw in, and certainly doesn’t acknowledge the word ‘surrender’ in any dictionary.

Adversity has had its fair share of punches for the Tiger #9 over the past year or so, Dante had a knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for much of 2019 and injured his hand in 2020.  However, it was the courage and strength of Argiro’s family that kept him fighting to get back on the field with his teammates, and to finish what he began as a freshman.

Argiro has come back from injury to lock down his spot as an incredible defender and leader on this Tiger team.  Now, as the Tigers prepare to battle for the state title, Argiro pushes his message of never giving in to his teammates, and shares some of his stories from his time at Springfield with us on this week’s Springfield Player Profile.

THE STORM IS BREWING

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers are back in the Division VI State Championship game for the second consecutive year and that can be correlated to the senior class keeping their hunger and drive to get back there and. this time, come away with a championship! The Tigers have many senior leaders on the field at any given moment but one player sticks out because he is able to get everyone on the same page vocally but also can lead by example through his play and that player is senior running back and outside linebacker, Clayton Nezbeth.

Clayton has been able to lead on the field with his play by always being in the right spot when needed. He is known for his running abilities but also how well he can catch coming out of the backfield and how he is able to get solid blocks for his teammates. Defensively, Nezbeth is always lurking and has the ability to find the ball wherever it might be at and can cover the necessary ground to either make the play himself or assist on a tackle when needed!

This season, Clayton has 67 carries for 511 yards for an average of 7.6 yards per carry and 9 touchdowns on the ground. Nezbeth is also averaging 16 yards per reception with 3 receiving touchdowns this season. Defensively, Clayton has been all over the field, collecting 106 total tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, had the opportunity to catch up with Clayton this week via video chat to discuss this season so far, what he thinks the Tigers need to do to bring home a state title, what his thoughts were from the Fort Frye game, and much much more!

AUSTIN 3:16

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers are one of the most unique football teams in the state of Ohio and not only because they are back in the state championship game for a second consecutive season, but because they have a senior class that has leaders all throughout it and because there is not one single player that looks to take over the game. The Tigers are a complete team and love to share the glory with everyone. No one embodies that team mentality and team success over personal glory more than senior running back, Austin Tindell!

Austin has been a huge part of this Springfield team whether it is throwing a huge block for Brungard to complete a pass or break off a big run, catching passes out of the backfield, or being the bruising running back who enforces his will every time he carries the ball. Tindell has been consistent all season long and always seems to be there when Coach G needs him to be. Austin has been able to not only dominate on the offensive side of the football but he has also been able to lead on the defensive side, making big tackles and always finding a way to stick his nose in every single play.

This season, Austin has 67 carries for 372 yards for an average of 5.6 yards per carry and 7 touchdowns on the ground. Tindell is also averaging 12.7 yards per reception this season. Defensively, Austin has been all over the field, collecting 58 total tackles.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Austin this week via video chat to discuss what his goals are for this season, what it has been like playing for Springfield throughout his career, what he is planning on doing after high school, what he thinks the Tigers need to do to bring home a state title, a rapid fire question session to learn more about what makes Austin the player he is, and much more!

BEAU KNOWS FOOTBALL!

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – Some might say the most important position on the football field is is the quarterback and the Springfield Tigers have one of the most electric and exciting quarterbacks in the Mahoning Valley. That man is Beau Brungard. Beau has been a quarterback at heart his entire football career as he follows the path his father was on before him.

Beau not only puts up great stats, he has also been able to lead his team to a state final four appearance this season, replicating the same success he had last season. This year however, Brungard has different plans as he and the Tigers are looking to bring home a state title. Brungard’s leadership extends well beyond the field though as he is one of the vocal leaders for this Springfield team as well. He has the ability to rally the troops and when he talks, his teammates listen and focus in on what their leader is saying.

This season, Beau is 107/156 for 1665 yards and 18 touchdowns through the air, but also has 76 carries for 717 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground. Brungard has also made one reception for a 65 yard touchdown. Defensively, Beau has been able to rack up 27 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery, all from his safety position.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Beau this week via video chat to discuss what his goals are for this season, what it has been like playing for Springfield for his career so far, what he is planning on doing after high school, what he thinks the Tigers need to do to bring home a state title, a rapid fire question session to learn more about what makes Beau the player he is, and much more!
