JACKSON MILTON BEATS THE WEATHER AND THE LIONS

NORTH JACKSON OH- Monday, August 29, after the storms rolled out, the Blue Jays hosted Heartland Christian and brought the thunder.  The Jays started with Ian Stewart, Keagan Beck and Nathan Corll in front of Brady Cole.  The midfield consisted of Ben Moore, Carter Graham, James Croyle, Zach Koontz and Alex Rotuna.  Kylee Fetkovich and Brock Piatt started up front. The Blue Jays have had an extremely long week having 4 varsity and 3 JV games in the past 7 days.  Luckily the storms brought a slightly cool breeze to help calm the humidity! A partly cloudy sky made the evening more enjoyable for everyone.

Within the first 2 minutes the Jays earned a corner kick opportunity.   Kylee Fetkovich took a well placed kick, Alex Rotuna finds the ball and has to battle some Lions to get the shot off, first goal of the evening!  10 minutes later, the Jays were possessing in the midfield when the sequence of success began; Carter Graham passed to Kylee, who found Alex inside the box for another Blue Jay goal!  The Blue Jays outshot the Lions 16 shots to two.  Brady Cole and James Croyle each had one save in goal.  Ben Moore went unchallenged.

Overall, the game was pretty clean with good calls by the officials.  Jackson-Milton subbed several players from the bench including, Brandon Hinkle, Dom Verquer, Joe Modarelli, Caden Allen, Anthony Chance and Aiden Aandewiel

Another shutout by the Blue Jays!  Defensively they are working together well and the midfield is doing a very nice job of rotating back during transitions, especial Carter Graham and James Croyle who have been working very well together.

The Blue Jays have no games this week, due to the Canfield Fair.  The team and coaches want to wish Caden Allen, Anthony Chance, & Carter Graham best of luck with their 4H competitions, as well as the soccer-band members who will be performing there on Thursday.

Jackson-Milton takes on in-conference opponent Crestview (2021 State Runner Up) when they return to play Wednesday, September 7 at 5pm at the JMHS Soccer Stadium.

POLAND TAKES ROUND ONE AGAINST RAIDERS

POLAND, Ohio, The Poland Bulldogs played host to the South Range Raiders in an early season clash of two of the premier programs in the NE8. Both teams came into tonight’s matchup looking for their first win on the season.

Poland’s offensive attack came out firing early and often in the first half, but through a majority of it, South Range goalkeeper Hannah Ball did a good job of keeping the Bulldogs at bay. Then, a goal by Freshman Kennedy Henderson opened up the Poland offense and gave the group a collective confidence boost. Goals also added by Kailyn Assion and Sophia Generalovich gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

One more goal by Generalovich in the second half gave Poland a 4-0 lead, the score they would win by as the game was eventually called a few minutes later due to inclement weather with just over 20 minutes remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs move to 1-1 on the season, while South Range drops to 0-3-1.

UNITED GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SARAH HODGSON

HANOVERTON OH- When talking about small schools in soccer, the girls program at United has been one of the most consistent in the area. It would be hard for you to find a losing record in their program’s history since it started in 2006.  They are two seasons removed from a district championship appearance, and they’re looking to get back to that spot this time around. With Sarah Hodgson back to coach the Eagles for another season, United has a great chance to make a run at it.

Coach Hodgson took the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point to give us a park behind the curtain and preview the Eagles season.  She talks with Ty Bartell and Anthony Hartwig about the schedule they’ve put together, the growth of the fairly young program, and much more! Fly with the Eagles and check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Sarah Hodgson.

KENNEY’S HAT TRICK LEADS HOWLAND TO WIN

HUBBARD, Ohio – In a matchup dominated by Howland since the 2018 District Final, a game which Hubbard defeated the Tigers 3-2, coach Stilles’ squad has taken the last 3 matches against Hubbard by a combined score of 12-0.

With just over eight and a half minutes remaining, Hubbard freshman, Trent Reinard, would find the back of the net to draw the Eagles within one. Howland would halt the Eagles comeback effort there, holding onto the victory 3-2.

SPARTANS CATAPULT THEIR WAY PAST SOUTH RANGE

CANFIELD, Ohio- In a battle of two of the valley’s premier programs, it was Boardman who was able to come out on top of South Range by a score of 3-0 in Monday night’s boys’ soccer battle.

Both teams were coming into battle looking for their first win of the season, as Boardman had a 3-3 draw with Hoban to open their season, and South Range had a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Ursuline to begin their season.

The first half was very physical from both teams, as neither wanted to let the opposition get any easy looks inside, which led to a scoreless tie going into the break.

The second half was all Boardman though. The Spartans controlled possession for much of the second half, and two goals by Sava Crnjak helped catapult Boardman to a 3-0 victory, their first of the season. In addition to Crnjak’s elite attacking ability, Carson Essad, the Spartans goalkeeper, was lights out in the net all night long.
