NILES SCORES EARLY, BLANKS QUAKERS TO ADVANCE

NILES, OH-  Score early on offense, limit opportunities on defense, and throw strikes.  It’s that easy, right?  On Wednesday, Niles McKinley stuck to that blueprint and advanced past the red-hot Quakers who rattled off 6 straight victories prior to the Sectional Finals.  Salem fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 4-0 loss to McKinley on Wednesday. McKinley scored on a single by Gallo, a single by Mays, and a fielder’s choice by Sudzina in the first inning.

In the first inning, McKinley got their offense started when Gallo singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

A single by Blaize Exline in the second inning was a positive for Salem, and one of only two hits for the Quakers on the evening.  Both belonged to Exline.

Weida led the McKinley to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out four.

Adam Wilson took the loss for Salem. He allowed ten hits and four runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.

Exline went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Salem in hits.

McKinley racked up ten hits on the day. GalloSudzina, and Leonard all managed multiple hits for McKinley.

NILES BREATHES FIRE ON GIRARD COMEBACK

NILES, OH- Despite a 4-run deficit in the fifth inning, Girard almost came all the way back, eventually falling 5-4 to McKinley on Wednesday.  the Indians scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Matt Miles and a single by Braydon Freeland.

Girard was right in it until McKinley singled in the sixth inning, Zach Leonard drove a liner to left to score Kenny Flanigan.

Zach Leonard was the winning pitcher for Niles McKinley. He went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three. Brandon Hayes threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Hayes recorded the last three outs to earn the save for McKinley.

Devin Dutton took the loss for Girard. He allowed eight hits and five runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.

Nick DeGregoryAnthony CorteseBrady HunkusJayden MaggsMilesFreeland, and Evan Boyle all had one hit to lead Girard.

McKinley had eight hits in the game. LeonardKenny Flanigan, and Joe Gallo all managed multiple hits for McKinley. Leonard led McKinley with three hits in four at-bats.

RANGE DEALS SHUTOUT AGAINST RED DRAGONS

CANFIELD, OH- The South Range Raiders defeated Niles McKinley 5-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

One bright spot for McKinley was a single by Nick Guarnieri in the first inning.

Sam Brooks was the winning pitcher for the Raiders. He went six innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out four. Brandon Mikos threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen to close things out.

Dylan Weida took the loss for McKinley. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out three.

Sophomore, Jake Gehring led the Raiders with two hits in two at-bats.

Guarnieri went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead McKinley in hits.

LATE INNING EXPLOSION PROPELS RANGE OVER NILES

NILES, OH- The South Range Raiders had everything working on Monday, winning big over Niles McKinley 12-1.

South Range scored six runs in the fifth inning. The Raiders offense in the inning was led by Josh StearTrey PancakeJared BajerskiBen RiveraJaxon Anderson, and Brandon Mikos, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Jake Gehring led the Raiders to victory on the hill. He allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out ten and walking one.

Corbin Foy took the loss for McKinley. He allowed 11 hits and nine runs over four innings, walking one.

The Raiders totaled 14 hits. Kris ScandyJard BajerskiDylan DominguezJaxon Anderson, and Josh Stear all managed multiple hits for South RangeKris Scandy led the Raiders with three hits in three at-bats.

Nick Guarnieri went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead McKinley in hits.

RAIN DANCE CAN’T STOP NILES OFFENSE, TRIBE FALLS

NILES, OH- Pure and simple: Niles came to play.  The Girard Indians couldn’t keep up with Niles and fell 8-1 on Monday.   Through the raindrops, Niles McKinley scored four runs in the fourth inning. McKinley scored its runs on a single by Zack Leonard.

Dylan Weida was the winning pitcher for Niles. He allowed two hits and one run over six innings, striking out nine.

Brady Hunkus took the loss for Girard. He surrendered six runs on eight hits over four innings, striking out six and walking one.

Austin Claussell and Anthony Cortese each managed one hit to lead the Indians.

The Red Dragons collected 11 hits. LeonardChase SudzinaKenny Flanigan, and Corban Foy each managed multiple hits for McKinley. Leonard went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead McKinley in hits. McKinley was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Nick Guarnieri had the most chances in the field with ten.

TITUS LEADS LADY DOGS TO SWEEP OVER DRAGONS

CORTLAND, OH- Beady Titus wasted no opportunities at the plate on Wednesday, driving in four on two hits to lead Lakeview past McKinley 17-3 on Wednesday. Titus drove in runs on a single in the first and a double in the second.

An early lead helped propel Lakeview to victory. The Lady Bulldogs scored on a double by Olivia Kelm, a single by Abbie Campana, a walk by Mariah Tackett, a single by Raegan Schick, a single by Titus, a triple by Cait Kelm, and a double by Kelm in the first inning.  From there it was just a formality.

After McKinley scored one run in the top of the fourth, Lakeview answered with one of their own. McKinley scored when Ragozino singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.  Lakeview then answered again when Madison Stredney drew a walk, scoring a run.  Schick was the winning pitcher for the Lady Dogs. She went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven. Bonneau took the loss for McKinley. She surrendered 16 runs on 11 hits over two innings.

Lakeview saw the ball well on Wednesday, racking up 13 hits in the game. KelmKelmMadison HarveyTitus, and Schick all managed multiple hits for Lakeview.  Kelm went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Ragozino led McKinley with two hits in two at bats.

HUBBARD SOFTBALL CALMS LADY DRAGONS

NILES, OH-  The Hubbard Lady Eagles Varsity easily did away with Niles McKinley 19-3 on Tuesday evening.  Hubbard got things moving early in the first inning.  Sydney Bowser singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.

Jackie Adler was the winning pitcher for the Lady Eagles. She allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out nine. Bonneau was in the circle for McKinley. She allowed six hits and nine runs over one inning. Libert tossed four innings out in relief.  Hubbard racked up 16 hits on the day. Kellsie LeshnakAdlerBowserEmily Filicky, and Grace Narkum all had multiple hits for the Lady EaglesAdler and Leshnak all had three hits to lead Hubbard.  Melius went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead McKinley in hits.

NILES CELEBRATES SIGNINGS

The Niles Red Dragons held their signings today for their student-athletes.  We wish them all the best in their future endeavors, and thank them for allowing us to share in their big day!  Good luck at the next level, Dragons.  We’ll be cheering for you!

SIGNINGS INCLUDE: 

Corbin Foy- Corbin is the son of Kevin and Kim Foy.  Foy is a four-year letter winner in baseball and carries a 3.34 GPA.  Corbin will further his academic and athletic career at Mercyhurst Northeast in the fall to study kinesiology and play baseball.

Nick Guarnieri- Nick is the son of Julie and TC Guarnieri.  A four-year letterman in baseball, Nick also carries a 3.51 GPA and will attend Thiel College in the fall and play baseball for the Tomcats.

Kenzi Johnston- Kenzi is the daughter of Buffy and Mac.  Johnston is a multi-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and softball and carries a 3.33 GPA.  Kenzi will continue her soccer and academic career at Hiram College majoring in Sports Management and Business.

Carolynn Thomas- Carolynn is the daughter of Shelly Maggiano.  Thomas is a four-year letter winner in bowling as well as a three-year letter winner in soccer and carries a 2.63 GPA.  Carolynn will attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to bowl and study business.

Jaycee Ward- Jaycee is the daughter of Shawna and Jason.  Ward is a four-year letterman in soccer and carries a stellar 3.70 GPA.  Jaycee will continue her soccer and academic career at Hiram College majoring in neuropsychology and psychobiology.

Hailey Zelinsky- Hailey is the daughter of Chris and Marla.  Zelinsky is a four-year letter winner in cross country and track and carries an incredible 4.0 GPA.  Hailey will continue her cross country/track and academic career at Youngstown State University.
