CANFIELD SET TO HOST DISTRICT SEMIFINALS

CANFIELD OH- In a highly lopsided match, Canfield showcased their soccer prowess with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Edgewood. This impressive win highlighted Canfield’s excellence on the field, and they now advance in the tournament with a record of 13-1-5.

Canfield’s offensive performance was nothing short of spectacular, with multiple players making crucial contributions. Drew Snyder led the way with 2 goals, while Ethan Mulichak, Ryan Dangol, Alexander Dace, Adam Ghossain, Luke Goodrich, and Aidan Kerns each added one goal to Canfield’s impressive tally.

Assists were generously spread throughout the team, with Ethan Mulichak providing 2 assists, and Alexander Dace and Evan Hrina each contributing one. The unselfish play and teamwork of the Canfield squad were on full display.

On the defensive end, Rocco Catheline made a significant save, ensuring Edgewood was held scoreless during the match.

With this commanding victory, Canfield advances to the district semi-final, where they’ll take on Marlington this Tuesday with a 6:00 PM kickoff.

EAGLES SHAKE OFF THE RUST AND ADVANCE

In a thrilling Sectional Finals showdown, Kennedy’s boys’ soccer team initially took some time to find their rhythm on Thursday. However, once they settled into the game, the Eagles soared to an impressive 6-0 victory over Campbell.

The momentum started building around the 12-minute mark when Nick Ryan scored a crucial header in the goalie box, putting Kennedy on the board. Over the following 12 minutes, Kennedy continued to assert their dominance, adding three more goals to their tally. Gio Femia, Dom Ryan, and Nick Ryan all contributed to this scoring spree, granting the Eagles a comfortable lead as they headed into the halftime break.

The Eagles’ performance was a testament to their skill and teamwork, securing a well-deserved victory in the Sectional Finals. With this triumph, Kennedy now looks ahead to the district semifinals, where they will host South Range on Tuesday.

CANFIELD ADDS ANOTHER BLOW OUT TO THEIR BELT

CANFIELD OH- Canfield’s girls’ soccer team continued their impressive season with an emphatic victory in the sectional finals, improving their record to a remarkable 18-0-1. The girls delivered an astounding performance, securing a resounding 10-0 win against Jefferson Area.

The scoring frenzy was led by several standout players, showcasing Canfield’s offensive firepower. Maci Toporcer was unstoppable, netting four goals, while Hanna Wahib followed closely with three goals of her own. Lorieona Jannone contributed with a pair of goals, and Keira Faire added to the tally.

Assists played a crucial role in Canfield’s success as well, with Hanna Wahib providing three assists, and Lexi Toporcer contributing two. Lorieona Jannone showcased her playmaking abilities with an assist of her own.

With this impressive win, Canfield now advances to the district semifinals, where they will face West Geauga at home on Monday.

POTTERS TURN THE TABLES ON BEAVER LOCAL

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a highly anticipated sectional tournament clash, East Liverpool and Beaver Local battled it out in an intense showdown. East Liverpool emerged victorious in a thrilling two-overtime encounter, eliminating their arch-rivals with a final score of 2-1.

Despite heading into this matchup with a 0-3 record against the Beavers this season, the Potters remained undeterred. The Beavers initially took the lead when Ben Miller netted a goal, assisted by Kaleb Mays, with just 19 seconds remaining in the first half. It was a tense moment for East Liverpool, but they were far from done.

Preston Kerr displayed remarkable composure and determination by scoring the Potters’ first goal, equalizing the match at one, with a mere 1 minute and 11 seconds left in regulation. The drama continued to unfold as the game headed into overtime.

With the tension mounting, Wyatt McCune became the hero for East Liverpool. He managed to break the deadlock with a goal, thanks to an assist from Preston Kerr, with only 1 minute and 41 seconds left in the second overtime. It was a moment of pure elation for East Liverpool, securing the hard-fought victory.

With this impressive win, East Liverpool now sets its sights on the next challenge. They will travel to face the fourth-seeded Steubenville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at Harding Stadium.

SALEM DEFENSE PROPELS THEM FORWARD

SALEM OH- Salem’s boys’ soccer team took a decisive step forward in the tournament, securing a hard-fought win against Alliance. The final score stood at Salem 2, Alliance 0, as Salem’s players displayed their prowess on the pitch.

Troy Gibson and Jake Davis were the heroes of the evening, scoring the crucial goals for Salem. Gibson’s impact extended beyond his goal-scoring prowess as he also provided an assist, underlining his invaluable role in the team’s success.

Salem’s strong defensive performance proved instrumental in holding Alliance scoreless throughout the match. The unyielding efforts of the entire team on the defensive end were showcased, and it all culminated in a standout performance by Colin Riesen in goal, who made one save to preserve Salem’s clean sheet.

With this victory, Salem advances to the next round of the tournament, setting up a highly anticipated match. They will take to the field on Saturday at Marlington, with a 4:00 PM kickoff.

CANFIELD HITS CRUISE CONTROL TO START TOURNAMENT RUN

CANFIELD OH- Canfield’s boys’ soccer team exhibited sheer dominance in OHSAA Sectional play as they faced off against the 25th seeded Niles squad. The number one seeded Canfield was relentless in their pursuit of victory, emerging with an astounding 10-0 win.

The Canfield offense was nothing short of spectacular, with multiple players making significant contributions. Ethan Mulichak led the charge with an impressive four goals, showcasing his scoring prowess. Drew Snyder was equally impressive, netting three goals, while Ryan Dangol, Evan Hrina, and Nick Atsas each added their names to the scoresheet.

In addition to their scoring feats, Canfield displayed remarkable teamwork, with assists coming from various players. Ethan Mulichak, in particular, contributed not only with goals but also with an assist. Andrew Battaglia, Micah Fredell, and Evan Hrina also showcased their playmaking abilities with an assist each.

The victory catapulted Canfield into the sectional final, where they will face Edgewood this Saturday, October 21st, at Canfield with a 4:00 PM kickoff.

RYAN RUNS INTO THE BIG STAGE

WARREN- OH, JFK has seemed to have found a diamond in the rough with freshman Andrea Ryan. Ryan in her first year has tallied an astonishing 53 goals with 3 assists! Scoring 53 goals in a season is an incredible mark, but doing it as a freshman is unheard of. Ryan has made an immediate impact as the eagles last year finished the season 4-9, in Ryan’s first season she has led her team to a league title and a first round bye in the playoffs as JFK finishes 12-3-1.

 The eagles will play their first playoff game Wednesday 10/18 against Cardinal Mooney. Ryan states “This game will be tough, a lot of girls on Mooney I’ve played with in club soccer my whole life”. It definitely will be a good matchup and one we’ll be keeping an eye on!

SALEM SEES THEIR SEASON REACH AN END IN ALLIANCE

ALLIANCE OH- In a hard-fought sectional match, Salem’s girls’ soccer season reached its conclusion as they faced off against their Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) rival, Alliance. While the game was marked by physicality and intense competition, Salem displayed tremendous resilience throughout the encounter.

Salem’s lone goal of the match was a testament to the skill and determination of one of their standout players, Rylee Hutton As she found the back of the net, Rylie not only contributed to her team’s performance but also etched her name in the record books.

Hutton, a name synonymous with goal-scoring excellence, brought her illustrious career to a close in this match. Her 127 career goals exemplify her extraordinary talent as a striker. Impressively, 34 of those goals were tallied in the current season, underlining her consistency and scoring prowess.

What sets Rylee apart is her ability to shine in critical moments. She notched an impressive 7 game-winning goals throughout her career, highlighting her capacity to make the difference when her team needed it the most. Moreover, Rylee’s  impressive record includes an astounding 21 hat tricks, showcasing her remarkable ability to dominate matches by scoring three or more goals.

 

CANFIELD SOCCER PLAYERS SCORE BIG IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

CANFIELD OH- Canfield High School’s soccer field became the backdrop for an incredible display of unity, fundraising, and athletic prowess when senior soccer stars, Maci Toporcer and Zaid Atway, came together for a fantastic cause. On the evenings of September 23rd and October 4th, the community joined in their passion for soccer and their commitment to combating breast cancer.

Maci and Zaid, who are part of Canfield High School’s National Honor Society, organized these special “pink out” games as part of their NHS service project. The idea was to leverage their love for soccer to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, a cause close to the hearts of so many.

Their hard work and dedication paid off remarkably. Through ingenious initiatives like game jersey sponsorships, t-shirt sales, and delicious bake goods, they managed to raise more than $4,700. This remarkable achievement goes beyond merely scoring goals on the soccer field—it’s a goal in the fight against breast cancer.

The proceeds from the Pink Out games are set to be donated to The Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization that’s renowned worldwide for its tireless dedication to breast cancer research and treatment. With almost $1.1 billion invested in research, Komen is a formidable force in the fight against breast cancer, focusing on aggressive and deadly forms of the disease.

The impact of Komen’s work is profound. To date, they’ve channeled their resources into over 2,800 breast cancer research studies and nearly 550 clinical trials. These efforts aim to unearth new discoveries, treatment methods, and ultimately, a cure for breast cancer.

For Maci and Zaid, this project represented more than raising funds. It served as a real-world lesson in project management, including organizing and managing finances. But perhaps the most profound lesson was in the power of community.

Soccer fans, students, families, and friends came together, donning pink attire, and filling the stands. This vivid show of support and solidarity is a testament to the impact of the fight against breast cancer, which affects so many lives. Maci and Zaid demonstrated that in sports, and in life, we are at our strongest when we unite for a great cause.

This admirable endeavor showcases the incredible impact that young people can make by pursuing their passions and harnessing their collective power to affect positive change. Maci Toporcer and Zaid Atway have proven that, with determination, teamwork, and a shared goal, we can all be champions in the fight against breast cancer.

CARDINALS CLINCH THE AAC

AUSTINTOWN OH- In a highly anticipated match, the Canfield Cardinals clinched the 2023 Boys Soccer All American Conference Championship with a well-earned victory over their opponents, Fitch, with a final score of 2-0.

The Cardinals displayed their championship-caliber performance as they executed their game plan to perfection. Andrew Battaglia and Drew Snyder were the stars of the day, both finding the back of the net to secure Canfield’s victory.

In addition to their impressive offense, Canfield also showcased their strength in defense. Cam Shaffer, guarding the Cardinal’s net, made 5 crucial saves to ensure their opponent remained scoreless throughout the match.

With this championship-clinching win, the Canfield Cardinals now prepare for their upcoming Senior Night event, where they will host Marlington. It’s clear that the Cardinals are on a path to a successful season, and they are eager to celebrate their seniors as they continue their impressive campaign in the world of high school soccer.
