TOTH RETURNS WITH DOMINATION IN THE CIRCLE

CANFIELD OH- After a week-long absence due to a minor injury, Malena Toth returned to the circle for Canfield on Tuesday night with a bang. In her first game back, she delivered a dominating performance, throwing a no-hitter and leading Canfield to a 4-0 victory over a tough Edison team.

Toth wasted no time making her presence felt, striking out batters left and right finishing with 20 in the game.  All of that while allowing only one walk throughout the game. Her impeccable control and fierce determination kept the Edison hitters off balance all night long.

The Canfield offense also came alive to support Toth’s stellar pitching. Macey Kalina led the charge, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and crossing the plate once herself. Caylee Ortiz contributed with a clutch RBI, going 1-for-1, while Faith Morell and Marina Koenig each added hits to keep the pressure on Edison.

KNIGHTS TAKE THE FIGHT TO ST JOES

AKRON OH- Hoban softball showcased their offensive firepower on Tuesday night, lighting up the scoreboard in a commanding 17-6 win over St. Joes Academy. From the first pitch to the final out, Hoban was firing on all cylinders, leaving no doubt about who controlled the game.

Leading the charge was Taylor Gerring, who had a stellar performance at the plate. Gerring went 3-for-3 with a home run, driving in four runs and scoring three times herself. Her power hitting set the tone for the Knights’ explosive offense.

Gracelyn Schultz also made her presence felt, contributing both with her bat and her arm. At the plate, Schultz went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and drew a walk, while on the mound, she pitched four solid innings, allowing six hits and striking out three batters.

Elli Weigand and Nevaeh Peters added to the offensive onslaught, each collecting three hits and driving in runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. Alivia Havanas also had a strong showing, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and crossing the plate twice.

Despite a few runs allowed, Hoban’s pitching held firm, with Schultz leading the charge. She battled through four innings, keeping St. Joes Academy hitters off balance and allowing her team to maintain control of the game.

LAKEVIEW CLAPS BACK TO SECURE PROGRAM’S FIRST NE8 TITLE

CANFIELD OH- In a thrilling showdown under the Tuesday night lights, Lakeview Bulldogs took on South Range Raiders with the NE8 championship up for grabs. It was a battle of the titans, and Lakeview came out swinging, determined to secure their place in history. They wasted no time, launching a four-run second inning that set the tone for the rest of the game. From there, it was all about maintaining their momentum and holding off any comeback attempts from the Raiders.

For Lakeview, this game was about more than just a win—it was about making history. And that’s exactly what they did. With their 11-6 victory on the road, the Bulldogs clinched their first-ever NE8 championship, a momentous achievement for the program.   Adding to the significance, it was also just the second time they managed to snag a win at South Range, making the victory even sweeter. As the final out was recorded, the Bulldogs erupted in celebration, knowing they had secured their place at the top of the conference standings. They will share the trophy with South Range, both teams finishing with just 1 loss in the league.

Leading the charge for Lakeview’s offense was Hallie Capan, who delivered a standout performance with a crucial home run and four RBIs. She set the tone early and provided the spark that ignited the Bulldogs’ offensive onslaught. Mack Stowe, Kennedy Bartlett, Isabella Isenberg, Kalyssa Werner, and Izzy Haines also made significant contributions at the plate, each recording hits and runs scored to keep the scoreboard ticking.

In the circle, Ava Bacon was tasked with shutting down the Raiders’ offense, and she delivered when it mattered most. Despite giving up some hits and runs, Bacon showed poise and determination, striking out batters and keeping South Range’s hitters off balance.

While the loss may sting for South Range, they showed resilience and fought until the final out. Players like Keira Brogan, Solena DeJesus, Jayli Wilt, and Gretchen Bartels led the offensive charge, refusing to go down without a fight. Their efforts kept the game competitive until the very end.

FITCH BOOM STICKS OUT IN FULL FORCE

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Austintown-Fitch Falcons softball team showcased their offensive power Monday night, hitting five home runs to cruise to an 18-0 victory over the Avon Lake Shoregals. The Falcons started strong, scoring 14 runs in the first inning and putting the game out of reach early.

Kaliana Ray kicked off the first inning with a single and stole two bases. Sister Ayla Ray reached second base, giving Abby Toth an opportunity to drive in two runs with a double. Sydnie Watts followed with a three-run home run to center field, increasing the lead.

The Falcons’ bats remained hot as Samantha Severn contributed with a single and advanced on wild pitches before scoring on a single by Rachel Spalding. Ayla Ray then blasted a grand slam, adding to the team’s commanding lead. By the end of the first inning, the Falcons held a 14-0 lead and were well on their way to a victory.

Fitch continued to dominate in the later innings, adding three more runs in the third. Abby Toth hit a leadoff home run, while Sydnie Watts followed with another two-run shot to push the lead to 17-0.
In the fourth inning, the Falcons added one more run as Jeweliana Farmer hit an RBI double, scoring Kaliana Ray. Watts wrapped up her performance in the circle by striking out the first batter of the fifth inning, though her perfect game and no-hitter were broken up in the next at-bat. She finished the game strong, striking out the last two batters.

Sydnie Watts led the Falcons’ offense with five RBIs on two home runs, while Ayla Ray collected four RBIs thanks to her grand slam. Abby Toth homered and doubled twice, gathering three RBIs, and Samantha Severn added three RBIs with a home run and a double. Jeweliana Farmer, Kylie Folkwein, and Rachel Spalding also contributed RBIs.

In the circle, Watts earned the win with 14 strikeouts and one hit allowed in five innings of work, with catcher Kylie Folkwein behind the plate.
The top-seeded Falcons finish the season at 16-1 overall and will host the #30 seed Mayfield Wildcats in the Division 1 Sectional Final on Wednesday, May 8, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. YSN will provide live coverage of the game, courtesy of Austintown-Fitch Softball Boosters! WYMER’S BLAST BOOSTS BOARDMAN AHEAD

CHARDON OH- In a tightly contested matchup, Boardman secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, powered by Maddie Wymer’s crucial home run in the 5th inning.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading blows throughout the innings. Boardman’s offense came alive in the 5th inning when Wymer stepped up to the plate and blasted a home run, driving in 2 runs and putting Boardman ahead 4-3. Wymer’s offensive heroics proved to be the difference-maker in a close game. She went 2-3 on the day to go along with her home run. She totaled 3 RBI when her day was done.

Alex Ward and Tori Strines also contributed to Boardman’s offense, with Ward driving in a run and Strines scoring 2 runs while drawing 2 walks. Mikayla Rivera added another hit for Boardman.

In the circle, Gabi Sferra delivered a strong performance, pitching 6 innings of solid softball. She allowed just 4 hits and recorded 8 strikeouts, keeping Notre Dame Cathedral Latin’s offense at bay.

 

SALEM BREAKS IN THE BATS IN CRESTVIEW

Emilee Lewis went the distance in the circle for the Quakes win. She struck out 14 Rebels on the evening.

Salem’s bats got going right off the bus as they scored 3 in the first & 3 in the second inning to jump to a 6-0 lead at Crestview.

Channing Toy tripled, scored twice & added 2 rbi. Emilee Lewis singled with 3 rbi.
Lauryn Barton singled, scored twice & reached base 3 times.

Paige Menough singled as did Mikayla Sneltzer. Mikayla scored twice as well.

The Lady Quakers had three sac flys in the game for rbi. Bella Brant, Hadley Carlisle & Emilee Lewis all hit sac fly rbi. Mave Johnson had a key sac bunt & drew a walk.

Salem had 8 stolen bases in the game. Lauryn Barton had 4 stolen bases while Paige Menough, Channing Toy, Emilee Lewis & Mikayla Sneltzer each swiped one.

Taelor Brown & Sadie Halloran had big hits for Crestview.

BADGER SECURES THEIR SPOT IN THE NEXT ROUND

KINSMAN OH- Badger secured their spot in the next round of the tournament with an impressive 11-1 run-rule victory over Lordstown in just 5 innings.

From the opening inning, Badger’s offense came out firing on all cylinders. Brianna Huscroft and Isabella Bailey led the charge, each going 3 for 4 at the plate. Huscroft contributed with 3 RBIs and scored 4 runs, while Bailey drove in an impressive 5 RBIs and scored 1 run herself. Samantha Bradbury added another RBI, while Maria Baker and Morgan Hall each scored a run for Badger.

In the circle, Molly O’Brien delivered a solid performance, pitching a complete game. She allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5 innings, while recording 2 strikeouts to keep Lordstown’s offense in check.

LOWELLVILLE GETS THEMSELVES INTO THE SECTIONAL FINALS

LOWELLVILLE OH Lowellville secured a tournament victory on Monday night, overpowering Lisbon with a decisive 12-2 win to advance to the sectional finals on Wednesday at Mineral Ridge.

Lowellville wasted no time asserting their dominance, jumping out to an early lead with a relentless offensive attack. Sophia Alfano led the charge, going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. Serinna Tych and Riley Goodin also contributed with RBIs to fuel Lowellville’s offensive onslaught.

In the circle, Sophia Alfano was equally impressive, pitching a gem of a game. She tossed 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits and no earned runs while striking out 8 Lisbon batters.

Lisbon fought hard, but struggled to keep pace with Lowellville’s potent offense. Marah Householder led Lisbon’s offense with 2 hits and scoring a run.

 

BLUE DEVILS STALL AGAINST ROOTSTOWN

ROOTSTOWN OH- Western Reserve’s offense struggled to get going on Monday night as they fell to Rootstown by a score of 3-0.

The game was a defensive battle from the start, with both teams struggling to generate much offense. Western Reserve’s bats were kept in check by Rootstown’s pitching, managing only 4 hits throughout the game. Lindsay Jones led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, while Caylee Selley, Kaleigh Williams, and Aubrey Kutsko each added a hit.

In the circle, Katie Byers pitched a solid game for Western Reserve, going 6 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits. Despite her efforts, Rootstown’s offense was able to capitalize on scoring opportunities to secure the win.

EAGLES OFFENSE KEEPS CHARGING

CARROLLTON OH- United softball engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth contest on Monday against Carrollton, ultimately emerging victorious with a hard-fought 10-8 win.

The game was a rollercoaster of momentum swings, with both teams trading blows throughout the night. United’s offense came out swinging, with Madelynn Lucas and Matti Zines leading the charge. Lucas went 3 for 5 at the plate, driving in 3 runs and scoring 2 herself, while Zines went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Sam Lippiatt, Brittany Miller, Brinsley Hiscox, and Kendall Erb each contributed with RBIs to round out United’s offensive effort.

In the circle, Zines also played a crucial role, pitching a complete game. Despite allowing 10 hits and 3 earned runs, Zines remained composed, striking out 3 batters to keep Carrollton’s offense in check.
