HOWLAND FINDS THEIR SWING

WARREN OH- It took a minute for Howland to get their bats going on Wednesday, but once they did they wouldn’t be stopped. With a 6-1 Pymatuning Valley team in town the Tigers traded scoreless frames with the Lakers through three. Then Brooke Gray got the Lakers on the board first in the top of the first. With the way the tempo of the game was going, you’d think scoring first would’ve given the Lakers an edge.  Howland had other plans however, as their bats finally woke up. With two runners on Jayde Fizet knocked in two runs to give the Tigers the lead, and wake up their bats. The Tigers scored three runs a piece in the next three innings to win 9-1.

Fizet ended the game 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. Kayla Campbell had the most hits on the day going 3-4.  Brooke Tatar launched a home run and went 2-4 with a RBI.  Zoe King and Sydney VanNess both finished with multiple hits going 2-4.

Lexi Spangler and Tatar split time in the circle as Spangler started the game going 3.1 IP giving up 1 earned run striking out 4 and walking 1 walk.  Tatar came in to pitch the final 3.2 innings and gave up 0 hits while striking out 7.

Howland returns to action on Thursday as they stay at home to host Magnificat at 5:00 in Howland Township Park.

A CATCHER TO DYE FOR

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Having a fantastic backstop is a key in making a successful battery.  If you have that, you’re one step closer to being a dominant team. Often the most overlooked position on the field, catching is not built for everyone. You have to do the dirty work, and be a great leader while doing it. Mineral Ridge has a solid backstop in Kelcee Dye that elevates their defense to a new level.

Along with her great catching attributes, Dye also brings a hot bat to the lineup. Early in the season she is hitting .500.  She has smacked 4 doubles, and knocked in 5 RBI so far.  Dye has yet to make an error this season proving how reliable she is behind the plate.

YSN’s Jake Sylak took the time to catch up with the Rams stand out. They talk about coming into a new season, the Rams program, and much more. Check out the latest Mineral Ridge Softball Player Profile only on YSN.
