HUBBARD SCREECHES PAST POLAND

HUBBARD, OH- Thursday, the Lady Eagles softball team came up with a hard-fought win over Poland by a score of 4-3.

Senior pitcher Haley Croyle went the distance, as she limited the Lady Bulldogs to three hits. Croyle struck out twelve Lady Bulldogs and walked two batters.
Croyle helped her own cause with a two-run double in the 5th inning as the Lady Eagles put together a three-run rally with two outs.
Grace Narkum had two of Hubbard’s five hits with a pair of singles. Narkum also scored two of Hubbard’s four runs.
Gillian Ryser and Emalee Warren each hit a single.
Hubbard improves to 10-2 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.

AIN’T NOTHING BUT A GIA THING, BABY

EAST PALESTINE, OH- It isn’t often in a student-athlete’s life that he or she is able to fly solo in the role of leadership.  Having the pressure of creating a winning culture, and leaving a lasting legacy can be overwhelming at times.  It’s a responsibility that only the dedicated can accomplish.

In Bulldog Country, one young lady has stared in the face of adversity so many times in her young life that it’s actually become a part of her job description.

Gia Brestelli has played the part of the influencer in her tenure as a Bulldog on the volleyball court, has spirited the sidelines as a cheerleader, and is now holding the leash as the lone upperclassman on the softball team.

While the job is far from done, there is no doubt that Brestelli has left her imprint on the future of girls sports in the future of East Palestine for generations to come; and she may have more to say on the other side of the sideline as a coach in the near future.

Gia sat down with us at YSN HQ and talked about her time as a Bulldog, and what’s next in her exciting future on this edition of East Palestine Player Profile: AIN’T NOTHING BUT A GIA THING, BABY!

RAIDERS DROP FIRST GAME OF SPLIT DOUBLER TO TALLMADGE

STOW, OH- South Range lost the lead late in an 8-7 defeat to Tallmadge (OH) on Saturday. The game was tied at seven with Tallmadge batting in the top of the sixth when Emma Garbinsky singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

The Lady Raiders collected nine hits and Tallmadge had 12 in the high-scoring affair.

In the first inning, South Range got their offense started. Juli Stachowicz was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

Tallmadge evened things up at seven in the top of the fifth inning. Leila Stazsak doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.  Tallmadge then scored four runs in the second inning and was driven by a single by Stazsak, by Zoe Rensel, and an error on a ball put in play by Marley Queen.

Riley Jackson was credited with the victory for Tallmadge. The bulldog allowed one hit and four runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Ella Bee and Mia Zappola entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Sam Susany took the loss for South Range Raiders Varsity. The right-hander went five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and striking out nine.

South Range totaled nine hits. Kelly Szolek, Gretchen Bartels, and Reagan Irons each collected multiple hits for the burgundy and gold. Irons, Bartels, and Szolek each collected two hits to lead the team.

Tallmadge had 12 hits in the game. Stazsak, Catherine Hedrick, and Garbinsky each had multiple hits.

LADY WARRIORS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST LAUREL

BESSEMER , PA- Thursday was a long day for Mohawk, falling to Laurel 14-4.

Laurel took the lead for good with nine runs in the second inning. In the second an error scored one run for Laurel, Boyd was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Miles drew a walk, scoring one run,  Zeppelin drew a walk, scoring one run, Maine singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Brua drew a walk, scoring one run, Deal drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kissick drew a walk, scoring one run.

Boyd got the start for Laurel. The bulldog went five innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out seven.

GiGi Cowher started the game for Mohawk. The hurler surrendered 11 runs on four hits over one inning, striking out one. Aricka Young threw three and two-thirds innings in relief.

Maya McGreal, Young, and Ava Nulph each collected one hit to lead the Lady Warriors.

Deal led Laurel with two hits in three at-bats.

HOT BATS CONTINUE FOR LISBON

LISBON, OH- The sticks are on fire for the Lady Blue Devils right now.  The Lisbon Lady Blue Devils took the lead late and defeated Catholic Central 17-11 on Saturday.

Mckenna Dailey collected four hits in six at-bats to help lead the Blue Devils Varsity to victory. Dailey doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the third, and doubled in the seventh.

Catholic Central evened things up at 11 in the bottom of the sixth inning when they doubled, scoring two runs.

Kyrstin Reckner got the win for Lisbon. The righty allowed seven hits and six runs over four and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.

Joney started the game for Catholic Central. The hurler allowed three hits and three runs over one inning, striking out two and walking zero Morgan Lively started the game for Lisbon. The pitcher lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and five runs while striking out three

Lisbon socked one home run on the day. Justyce Vrable went for the long ball in the first inning.

The Lady Devils tallied 20 hits in the game. Dailey, Alexa Wichmann, Parker Henthorne, Reckner, Lively, Anna Marshalek, and Vrable all had multiple hits. Dailey led David hitters with four hits in six at-bats.

Crust went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Catholic Central in hits.

COPE HAS BIG DAY AT THE PLATE; EAGLES SWEEP EP

HANOVERTON, OH- With pitching carrying the United Lady Eagles in the first leg of the doubleheader, the offense picked up the tab on the way out the door.  Namely, Taylor Cope and her 4 RBI performance in the second contest en route to a 12-2 victory over East Palestine on Saturday afternoon.

United fired up the offense in the first inning. Colby Burton drove in one when she doubled.  United scored four runs in the third inning. United’s big inning was driven by singles by Mady Lucas, Taylor Cope, and Sam Lippiatt.

Tori Firth was in the pitcher’s circle for United. The Eagle Ace allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out seven.  Prior to the hit in the fourth inning, Firth and the Eagles hadn’t allowed a hit in 14 innings of work.

Gabby Andre toed the rubber for Bulldogs. The righty surrendered seven runs on ten hits over three innings, striking out three and walking zero. Ceci Foster threw one and one-third innings out of the bullpen.

Taylor Foster and Alexus Robb each collected one hit to lead the Bulldogs.  Ceci Foster also had an RBI on the day.

United saw the ball well today, racking up 17 hits in the game. Cope was 2-3 in game two with four runs batted in.  Tori Firth went deep over the centerfield fence for a solo shot.  Burton, Lucas, Cope, Irey, Zines, and Firth each had multiple hits for United. Burton led United with four hits in four at-bats. United tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Cope led the way with three.

FIRTH THROWS NO-NO IN FIRST GAME OF EP DOUBLE DIP

HANOVERTON, OH- We’re starting to see an arms race shaping up in the Valley, and United’s ace is certainly making a case for having her hat in the ring.  The East Palestine Bulldogs fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-0 loss to United on Saturday. United scored on a triple by Colby Burton, a passed ball during Brielle Rose‘s at-bat, and a double by Cope in the first inning.

United got things moving in the first inning when Burton tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Tori Firth led things off on the rubber for United. The Big Dog nominee lasted five innings, allowing no hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Freshman, Anna Yonker was in the pitcher’s circle for the Bulldogs. The hurler lasted four innings, allowing 11 hits and 11 runs while striking out three.

United saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Brielle Rose and Joshlynn Irey each managed multiple hits for United. United was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Rose had the most chances in the field with nine.

SOUTH RANGE BOUNCES BACK OVER LAKEVIEW

CORTLAND, OH- South Range certainly didn’t like the outcome of yesterday’s game against NE8 rival, Lakeview.  So, they had the chance to do something about it 24 hours later, and asserted their will over the Bulldogs on their way to a 9-1 victory

South Range got things started in the second inning. Reagan Irons grounded out, scoring one run.  The Lady Raiders also tallied three runs in the fifth inning. Irons and Gretchen Bartels each had RBIs in the big inning.

Sam Susany got the win for South Range as she surrendered one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out ten and walking one.

Ella Chadwick took the loss for Lakeview. The Lady Bulldog went two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and walking zero.

South Range tallied 14 hits on the day. Susany, Juli Stachowicz, Kelly Szolek, and Madison Dado each collected multiple hits for for the Lady Raiders. Susany went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Reagan Price led Lakeview with two hits in three at-bats.

LADY DEVILS BLANK EAST PALESTINE

LISBON, OH-Mya Emmerling didn’t allow a single run against East Palestine, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Lisbon to a 10-0 victory on Friday

The Lady Devils got things started in the first inning. Parker Henthorne doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.  The Blue Devils Varsity put up four runs in the sixth inning. Mckenna Dailey, Morgan Lively, and Anna Marshalek all drove in runs in the frame.

A single by Alexus Robb in the second inning was a positive for East Palestine.

Emmerling led things off in the circle and lasted six innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 12 and walking one.

Gabby Andre started the game for East Palestine. The ace surrendered ten runs on nine hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Lisbon tallied nine hits. Emmerling, Justyce Vrable, and Dailey all collected multiple hits for the Blue Machine. Dailey, Vrable, and Emmerling all had two hits to lead the team. Emmerling led David Anderson Blue Devils Varsity with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

Robb went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead East Palestine in hits.

THE SLAM SISTERS EMERGE; LADY EAGLES THROTTLE SOUTHERN

HANOVERTON, OH- The old saying goes, good things come to those who wait. The United Local softball team has waited and waited since April 9 to get back on the field, that wait paid dividends as the Eagles took care of Southern Local 12-0 Wednesday evening.

Big Dog of the Valley nominee Tori Firth picked up where she left off in the circle, the Junior combined with her battery mate Brielle Rose held the Indians to one hit over six innings while collecting thirteen strikeouts. Firth also helped herself at the plate alongside Colby Burton each going 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI.  Mati Zines also contributed to the United offense going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Brielle Rose and Makayla Craig each added 2 hits to cap off the 15-hit attack for the Eagles.

United (5-1, 4-0) looks to keep it going on Friday as they visit the Field of Dreams in Boardman to take on Chaney at 5:30pm.
