GIRARD PITCHING QUIETS THE EAGLES BATS

NILES OH- Both teams were strong on the hill on Saturday, but Girard defeated Hubbard 2-1. Dominick Tolone started the game for Girard Varsity Indians and recorded 21 outs. Tolone struck out 12 batters on the day. They also surrendered one hit and one run over seven innings while walking six.

A wild pitch put Hubbard on the board in the top of the first. Girard took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Tuttle singled, scoring two runs, to give Girard Varsity Indians the leg up, 2-1.

Braydon Songer took the loss for Hubbard. They went six innings, surrendering two runs on five hits, striking out 10 and walking one.

Tuttle drove the middle of the lineup, leading Girard  with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. Dominic Phillips, Will Hynes, Tuttle, Jaden Royal, and Nate Freeland each collected one hit. They turned one double play in the game.

Gabe Rusnak led Hubbard with one hit in two at bats. Tyler Wright paced the lineup with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Hubbard turned one double play in the game. They didn’t commit a single error in the field, playing awesome defense in the pitcher’s duel.
