PITCHING THE CARDINAL RULE; CANFIELD TAKES BATTLE OF THE BIRDS
STRUTHERS, OH- The Canfield Cardinals blew out Cardinal Mooney 9-2 on Saturday.
Canfield got things moving in the first inning. Landon Beidelschies’s sac fly scored one run for Canfield.
Connor Miller was credited with the victory for Canfield. Miller went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out six and walking zero. Jake Grdic threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen and struck out five out of seven batters faced.
Logan Boyd took the loss for Cardinal Mooney. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on nine hits over five and a third innings, striking out one.
Canfield collected 12 hits on the day. AJ Havrilla, Ben Slanker, Ryan Petro, and Josh Juliano all managed multiple hits for Canfield. Juliano, Petro, Slanker, and Havrilla all had two hits to lead the team. Canfield stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Petro led the way with two.
Cam Sweeney went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Cardinal Mooney in hits.
